I still find it hard to believe that the Mario series is inspired from a cartoon that I grew up on. I still miss watching it on Cartoon Network these days. When I think about it, it's still mindblowing. Β

It's amazing that just by mere chance that the Mario series was created. If Nintendo got the rights to the Popeye characters, who knows what would've happened? Maybe we wouldn't have our favorite red plumber today...

I knew about this already when I read about the History of Mario which is featured in theΒ Nintendo The Official Magazine: Mario Collector's Edition. These days, Popeye isn't popular anymore. I haven't heard of him in years.Β

Think about it:
Popeye rescues Olive Oyl, Mario rescues Princess Peach.
Popeye has a big nose, Mario has a big nose.
Popeye gains power from spinach, Mario gains power from mushrooms.

They're practically one in the same! So I thought it would be cool if they were related somehow.
