Description December 26, 2004
Banda Aceh, Aceh Province, Indonesia

One of the greatest natural disasters in the world occurred after a 9.0 earthquake in the Indian Ocean. Entire populations were washed away and their cities, towns and villages obliterated. My next collection of photographs will try to encompass what I saw when I went there May 28-29.

--------

This ship was apparently moored to the dock before the powerful tsunami hit the shores of North Sumatra. The ship was probably tossed around like a toy despite it's size (over 60 m).

Wow! would be one word I would use to describe this photo.
This photo defintely shows the power Mother Nature can unleash on us sometimes. Sometimes she needs to send us untimely and powerful reminders that she is still the biggest force on the planet, and not mankind.
The clouds, the sky, and the brightness of the water looks abonormal against a massive 60m ship overturned.
Although, it is a beautiful landscape, and I love the streaks of the clouds.
What an amazing sight it would've been.

what an amazing shot. it scares me how a ship that big could be tossed around like that. shows how rough mother nature can be to us.

Very nice and sharp.
Yeah Nature can be realy powerful. we think we can mess with mother nature
but when she get tired of our attitude she can show that she's the master.

Very nice shot.

wow. that's heavy. i mean that literally and figuratively. lots of emotions go through me when i think about that fateful tsunami...the power it had, the amount of lives it changed and destroyed. this one puts a lump in my throat....such an ugly (yet amazing) sight in such an otherwise clean and beautiful place. intense juxtaposition!
