Wow. So realistic it's heart breaking. Good work author!
That and Siatra was a smart filly so she would've remembered being told to stay near mother.

;v; Thank you kindly! I am glad you appreciate!
Siatra knew to stay near mother but she was too curious she oftern wandered too far from mother (as well as the other foals). Unfortunatelly she was not fast enough to get back to her in time :/

Woooow, so sad. I never expected her to go so fast. Plus being the only girl and favorite of the great ru? But i like the forbonding of the Mom always wandering from her. It made her daughter have to be smarter but in the end the herd and staying together keeps them safe...wow.
The mother is truly learning a harsh lesson. And i like that no one is getting over this quickly either. This is the first most cataclysmicly dark event. And it shows.

Yes, you recapitulated it right ^^
Thinks doesn't go as many of them expected.
It is, and it's important event for the future of the comic story ^^

Great job expressing denial in the mother as she slowly starts to realize what's happening.
Kind of sucks she doesn't want to believe her foal is gone and it's a lot clearer now that it's rlly sinking in, like you can actually see how messed up the situation is but also true.

I'm making a horrible pun based on twisting a word. xD
The original word is martyr and there are several meanings surrounding it, all have in common one person dying for a cause.
In this case, you killing Siatra has a cause, making her a martyr...
Or maretyr, as my horrible and bad joke goes. xD

Poor Majiva.... but life goes on and she still has to survive the winter - doesn't have the luxury of mourning. She will do better next time.

Mocarro In reply to BUGHS-22 [2018-11-07 16:30:01 +0000 UTC]
That's the harsh life in the wilderness. Honestly, if Majiva had to choose between keeping herself or Siatra alive, she would choose herself. She can have a foal next year, but Siatra wouldn't survive without a mother (if she would still depend on her mother). This totally can be observed in the wild: mothers eat first usually, they need the food to keep themselves alive, because if they are alive they can defend their cubs/foals/pups or produce more cubs/foals/pups in the future. If they let the offspring eat and then something happens with the mother because of the lack of food, well then the offspring is doomed as well.

That's true in most cases - Elephants, however, are one of the only cases I can think of them choosing the health of their calves over themselves. Every mammal and some birds share the same emotional complexity as a human. But in the case like elephants where their emotions are more pronounced due to their heightened sense of empathy, it's a little different. It might also be because an elephant usually only has one calf at a time and it takes twenty-two months to give birth. So I think that species that prioritize offspring over themselves are more connected to their emotions than others - at least to the point where grief overrides instinct. There are multiple cases of deer, elephants, and even apes who have starved to death due to the grief they feel over losing their young.

It has been two months since you posted the previous comic page and finally, you posted another page, but I don't blame you for the delay since I know you were moving to a different country and had other kinds of complications.
I think Majiva's an incompetent mother considering that she didn't see Siatra getting caught by predators even when she told her to get close to her.
I would imagine that the protagonist character, who was the only one in the herd to see the kitties feasting upon Siatra's carcass, would hasitate to tell Lorko about what happened to the filly and I'm more concerned about the relationship between the two colts in the future than about Majiva having to accept the loss of her daughter.

BUGHS-22 In reply to Gensdelarocide [2018-11-05 21:42:12 +0000 UTC]
Yeah ^^" it was chaotic month and chaotic page to be done.
It was also chaotic for Majiva to orientate who is where when she was near karza too. She saw Siatra turning to the left with the brown mare and that was the last time she got a glimpse of her until she was hidden in between herd. And so she says she thought the is still there, not that she was chased away from the herd by the kitty and killed afterwards :/
Yeah, there will be this topic in the future in their bachelor herd formation ^^

Gensdelarocide In reply to BUGHS-22 [2018-11-05 23:08:08 +0000 UTC]
I wasn't just talking about when the colts will be in a bachelor herd in the future, I was also talking about their mutual relationship during the rest of the time they're in Tiris' herd until they get kicked out.
And what did you mean by "she thought the is still there"?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
BUGHS-22 In reply to Gensdelarocide [2018-11-06 13:54:36 +0000 UTC]
There won't be more about the situation in herd, next chapter is comming and with this there is a big time jump into the future when all of those colts are leaving the herd ^^
Ah, I misspelled "She (Majiva) thought she (Siatra) is still there (in between other horses of the herd)" ^^

Ouch...
I mean, they're not wrong, but they're certainly not pulling any punches. The grief must be hard enough for Siatra's mom to deal with right now.

BUGHS-22 In reply to TheAlyshianArchives [2018-11-05 21:28:47 +0000 UTC]
Yeah ^^"" older mares are over these too painful emotions and they try to make Majiva to do the same. Animals DO have a feeling of a loss and sadness. But nature keeps kicking them forward so they cannot moarn forever and keep trying to survive and multiply :/
I've seen several videos from nature where mother lost her litter to a predator. She tried to defend it as long as she could but when she saw it's no use she was just standing there sad, looking at it and accepting the defeat, then leaving back to her group. From this I made these old mares to be like that towards Majiva, advicing her to just accept it, learn from it and move on. They don't mean bad, they just mean nature ^^
Beside all of this, yes, you are right, for Majiva it's a first experience and she definitelly doesn't feel so okay about it like the older ones :/

BUGHS-22 In reply to FeatheryFables [2018-11-03 18:35:28 +0000 UTC]
Exactly ^^ Older and more experienced mares are used to get over such things so they try to make Majiva to do the same. But of course, Majiva see it much differently as it's her first experience :/
I hope you will enjoy the comic in future too!
