Why's the red guy shirtless? The others are clothed normally.

Dikarian - the red one - race is used to live around nature in harmony and they are dressing selves a little similar to african or native american style. They have more fur and tough body and they live in more warm places. The yellow ones - Asorians are living in modern Europe like part of world. These two races are normally separated but this one became family friend by coincidence back in war times.

Dikarians just don't need and don't want to wear much clothes.
On the other hands modern asorians live as we normal people. That is why they are clothed. Also they would be freezing outside if not.

Asorians and Luskans have to use footwear.
Xavials and Treasans doesn't need it but they use it. They have paws but they like fashion.
And for Dikarians, they use just simple one or any. Because as Yavials and Treasans they have paws.

It would be hard and sharp at times. Even with pads. Unlike shoes, foot pads have feeling, blood vessels, and are a physical part of their body.

I know of course. I enjoy studying animal anatomy. I don't make up stupid thinks just to make it look more "cool". I didn't see paw creatures needing to wear shoes or having foot massages and they are ok for thousand years

Some creatures walks by paws on extremly hot sand. Some of them can walk on completely frozen ground. Some of them are hunting on sharp rocky hills. Paw pads are always suited for the animal habitat. I don't think it is always painful or enjoyable for them. So the same are dikarians. They have their feet made for walking on the ground they live in and doesn't think about how it feels. They just focus to not step on thing which would cause them pain.

Ah correction... I noted from another picture in your gallery that Erifess is a boy. The flowing blonde hair and soft child-like face kind of fooled me.

It's because he has closed eyes so it is not so obvious. Anyway, females has lighter pink nose ^^

I really like this family, their designs and white markings. You've captured some wonderful personalities here. I love how laid back Blastrix is, the look of gentle amusement in Damian's eyes, the joy on Erifess's face (though her eyebrows look a little wonky to me) and Ferin's impulsive reaching out to stop them.
Does Ferin have reason to worry?

Yes, I really focus on the personality capturing. Is it the most important in the picture for me. I spend a lot of time on it because I want to draw how exactly they feel (I am kinda crazy maybe ^^") I am glad it worked, you wrote it about the characters all correct ^^
Maybe Erifess looks wonky because it tickling him. We are making weird faces when somebody tickle us I think ^^
Blastrix is laid back, he knows Damian won't hurt Erifess. They are just playing. Damian likes kids. And Ferin? No he doesn't have a reason to worry but he worries, he is nervous person and he loves his only nephew so much. He doesn't have his own chidlren or wife so that's why he behave to Erifess like to his own son.

Awww! Thank you for the further commentary. It really helped me understand your characters. I definitely think spending time capturing the character's personality is important! In this way, all artists are a bit crazy. It's a good crazy. You are right, we all make strange faces when we're tickled. I think I'd enjoy reading a story with these characters especially Ferin. I can identify with him--I worry too much.
