Description Continuing on from Ares is the next and final update of all the Olympians I had originally made: the Messenger of the Gods, Escort of the Recently Deceased, God of Travel, Commerce, Boundaries, and Thieves, Hermes! A bit of a lesser presence than Athena or Hera, but he will play a crucial role as the only one of the Olympians initially who is capable of traveling the dimensions under his own power without using interdimensional gates and pathways. And I still have a notion that he will take a liking to David, though I'm not sure if I'll still do the whole dagger bit.

Designwise I definitely wanted him to look a bit more colorful than the original, who shared the same off-white color as Athena, and I wanted him to look a bit more interesting. I went with blue, as that seemed to recur in many versions I saw; red was another popular color, but since I went with that for Ares, blue ended up as the final choice. Changed the helm to more of a cap and went with an interesting take I saw on the wings while doing research. Added the twin snakes of the caduceus as his main emblem, and rams on his shoulders for his role as a shepherd god and presiding over sacrifices. Then added a kind of quasi-wing/quasi-cape, which added an extra color element and something to illustrate flow and momentum with him.

In older depictions Hermes is usually seen with a beard, but in those depictions he basically looks like all of the other male figures, so I chose to deviate from that trend with his facial hair. Finally, I gave him a variation on the caduceus, here known as the "Kerukeion," with one major deviation by adding a hook akin to a shepherd's crook onto it. Another nod to his role as a shepherd god.

Here's the original, for comparison:

Anyway, that's the last of the Olympian updates! From now on it's all brand new takes! Hephaestsus, Artemis, and Apollo are the next set of three, and after them I'm thinking I'll round out the rest of the pantheon (Aphrodite, Demeter, Dionysus, Hestia), as well as tackle some other notable figures, like Persephone. So stay tuned for all that goodness in the next month or two!
