Description “Willy Käcker” prismacolor on paper, 9x12.” Willy Hans-Heinrich Käcker was born on July 2, 1905 to a family of craftsmen.

He graduated from the Wismar secondary school, and had a three year apprenticeship with a grain dealer named Karl Sodemann. He learned carpentry from his master carpenter father in the 1920’s.

On March 4, 1933, at the age of 27, Willy opened a tobacco shop located on his parents’ property. A year later, he was able to have his shop remodeled. On July 2, 1938, the Wismar police arrested the young entrepreneur. Willy was arrested as 1 of 15 gay men from the area in July. The Schwerin State Police Office had its own homosexuality unit to hunt down gay people. All arrested in this group were convicted and Willy was sentenced to seven years.  He was sent to Auschwitz on August 29, 1941 and was murdered there on October 18th if that year at the age of 36. #art #pinktriangleportraits #paragraph175 #pinktriangle #rosawinkel #willykacker #gayart #lgbtart #holocaust #auschwitz #holocaustremembrance
