Description ays of Remembrance, I have two more portraits to share. Anti-semitism, homophobia, and transphobia still run rampant in our world, and we must not lose sight of what has already happened lest it happen again. First is Leonhard Allenstein Cohen (Cohn?). Possibly born Dec. 9, 1908. I found Leonhard in the Yad Vashem archives as just a single photo labeled “21 year old Leonhard Cohen, had relations with men.” It seems there was absolutely nothing else known about him. I was able to cross reference documents in the Arolsen archives and I believe I discovered his fate. At Sachsenhausen there was a prisoner, number 35020 listed as imprisoned for paragraph 175, also listed as Jewish, so he likely would have had to wear the yellow Star under the pink triangle. I found a death certificate for him dated April 8, 1941. It states he lived in Berlin-Charlottenburg, 120/121 Kantstraße, his parents names were Hugo Cohn and Frieda Cohn (née Raphaelsohn.) His cause of death is listed by the Lagerkommandant as Heart and circulatory related; if true, most likely from being worked to death as gay prisoners had to endure sadistic, cruel, and often pointless back breaking work. Prismacolor pencil on strathmore paper. #art #lgbtart #holocaust #holocaustremembrance #daysofremembrance #pinktriangle #leonhardcohn #coloredpencil #portrait
