Thank you. That background was my first attempt at painting 'messy'. It was fun, but hard not to straighten everything up!

I definitely hear you! I'm a "toucher" - I just can't leave anything alone! You did a wonderful job, though. ^^

This has such a rich and radiant quality. I love the fact that despite the large areas of "nothing", it's still so intricate. Beautiful piece and a great concept.

All the red on the canvas was mixed with other colors, mostly brown, orange, or black. For the branches I just used straight red. Thanks!

great arrangement and great color! I might complain about the 'lack of depth' but it actually is not a problem at all... it reminds me a bit of a japanese wall scroll. love it.

Thank you, and I agree on the depth issue, but I hope that the 2D effect adds to the pop of the yellow outline. Maybe?

Thank you for your compliments and for your honesty. I have to say that I agree with you on the background. It was a realm of experementation for me, and I was just actually telling my wife that I wish I had gone with my tried and true surrealistic clouds. However, the textureing, toothbrush scrubbing, and splattering were awesome fun. As for the blocky lines on the bird, I guess that was just an attempt at avoiding realism. I was reaching for a new school feel, but again, I stepped out of my comfort zone on this one. Thank you again for taking the time to give me great feedback and pure honesty. It really is appreciated.

The area where you outline the bird and people with yellow edges is such a great approach since it really focuses into the relationship between the two birds flying with your main characters..What I see through this piece when you brought in the birds, is that they symbolize being free, when he learn about his love for her, that the love that they have, shares them the freedom of being together; in short "free"...
The detail with the plant like structure that you have painted on there, the technique you used in that area is also wonderful, you can certainly play into that area of creativity: ))))Keep it up Bryan...
I really enjoyed this piece..The symbolism and the play of your colors...Thank you: )

No, thank YOU. The plant-like structure that you speak of was almost an afterthought, as my easel is next to a window and the late afternoon shadows of a tree were dancing around on the canvas. At first they were distracting, so I just decided to literally trace the shadows and include them in the painting. They were almost begging me to do it! As for the correlation to freedom...YES. Many believe that love will tie you down, but true love sets us free.

Hahahahaha, that is so wonderful how something that was at first a distraction, became a blessing in disguise..hahahaha...That is what makes the process of art so wonderful and surprising...
And through those that I am blessed to have cross path with, that I learn of the true love that does exist and it's certainly shares that freedom: )
