Weiss's original family wasn't great, but she has a new family now. One that loves and supports her.Thought there was something a little missing from the latest RWBY episode, so I drew it. Get everyone in on this group hug : )

I only recently got into RWBY and well this scene well I feel that it should have been like this instead of how it was presented. Team JN(P)R has been with them and also part of the family and despite how many play ships both teams got each other backs.
RWBY and other shows with larger casts personally have made the mistake of having the world revolve only on the main character(s) and others that are not blank slates feel left out, yes the show is called RWBY but is no excuse to leave others out.

I would like to say I feel this moment is heavily underrated.
Weiss starts the series acting like she has the perfect family only to slowly realize that NO she doesn't, then when she goes back home she realizes "OH SHIT, my family is horrible. Someone SHOOT THEM!" she find's no true sympathy for the fact that innocent people including one of her friends were murdered, and she receives no acceptance for who she really is as a person and runs away.
The first of her friends she encounters is Yang who originally had a seemingly unbreakable family dynamic with Ruby, that was greatly shaken during the fall of beacon. AND she learns that Yang has a shit parent too, but when they finally reunite with Ruby she sees that despite adversity Ruby and Yang still possess a powerful family bond.
And then they open their arms for Weiss to join them and she nearly starts crying as she literally runs into them.
Its a touching moment where she not only finds acceptance, but recognizes who her family really is, and RoosterTeeth kinda segues through the scene.
Reel it back we're not done with the feels!

I absolutely agree. It was definitely underrated as a very important character development scene, and got overshadowed by the previous week's hug.
Weiss being my favorite character, it really hit me when she's welcomed into the family by Yang and Ruby. : )

By comparison, Blake's reunion with the team felt pretty weak. At least there was a hug.
