The Saxons and Vikings both came from Scandenavia.

I didn't until someone told me. Some of the germanic tribes also came from the same area.

I know they're not strictly from there. But according to my research, some came from Sweden.

Saxon and Viking Huscarls from around the 9th century on wards pretty much looked the same. Their Dane axes were said to have terrified the Normans at Hastings

well that's exact and not exact. Saxons weren't so similar to the Vikings, but as you said, in the english army we have Huscarls, who in fact were Vikings usually ones from Norway, who at a certain point integrated in the Saxon society and became armed clients of the nobles, and their personal guards (that's typical since way older times, one of the evolution of the germanic armed client lifestyle are the Paladins of Charlemagne). not for nothing they are the Warriors of the House (of their noble boss)            (of course even the other Saxons had some similarities with continental germanic people, as they were a product of celtic, celto-roman and germanic mix-ups xD)

ah i heard the thing about Hastings too if im not wrong, on the Bayeux Tapestry Harold Godwisson is depicted with a Dane axe, not to forget the famous nameless warrior holding for like 30 minutes alone Stanford Bridge (ok he was a Hardrada's army norwegian warrior, but heck that was a epic feat xD)

Harold probably would have used a Dane axe at Hastings yeah. Though the tapestry never makes it clear if he's the poor sod with the arrow in his eye or the one being run down by knights.

What I do know is that after Hastings men from England (Either Saxon or Norse descended) made up the majority of the Varangian Guard in the Byzantine Empire for quite some time.

yeah the story itself (of Harold's death) is very unclear, in the most used version both the thing happened, he got a arrow in the eye and then he was finished by a knight (ouch) even if looks like the account of the arrow episode is slightly newer than the oldest battle reports... about how it's made onto the tapestry, my opinion, and of course im not a great historian or a researcher, just a aficionado and history lover.... is that, knowing that "looks like that after a reconstruction in the past, the piece was modified" the guy holding the arrow in his own eye could actually be a guy with a spear or javelin in the hand, i'd put my cents on the guy with the axe and a angry horse over him, in being poor uncle Godwisson xD (if something's sure, in the tapestry he was already depicted with a dane axe, could be a coincidence of course but could be a particular to highlight he's not a random saxon) ... aaaaand (but sounds silly XD) the writing saying "the dude gets killed" it's more over him than over the "arrow guy" ... could be nice to have the power to ask directly somone from the time (even if of course, it's not like present happenings are always so clearer than the past, eh? xD)

yep, better that than serving those new norman jerks xD
it's a bit the story of Hardrada's life, with the difference that happened before and he was a norwegian from Norway

Quite nice and historical accurate looking, must be a pretty rich saxon in order to afford a full chain mail and a sword.
