Anyway, this is, indeed, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX fanart. And for once, it's not in GX style! I told you guys I was back into GX! xD

I'm getting back to commissions after this. This picture started out as a sketch, I SWEAR. I'm not even sorry, though. I REALLY love the way his hair turned out.
In case it wasn't obvious, this is Hell Kaiser/Dark Zane from GX. He is not wearing his coat and he is indeed smoking. I don't personally believe Zane himself smokes, but I think he started when he became Hell Kaiser. Just a little tidbit.
The premise of this peace is pretty angsty. Take it as you will, make your own stories up, I have my own. You can only assume from my track history that it has to do with Majesticshipping, Idolshipping, and Seto Kaiba LOL
My favorite parts of this picture have to be the smoke and his hair. I love how they came out. I hope I didn't spam textures too much haha;;
My mood music was a lot of Depeche Mode. A LOT OF IT.

I really like this picture even if the perspective and anatomy have some mistakes.

Hahaha, atm I learn this shit at school (doing my A-Levels based on fashion design), it is really hard to work with it but if you have to do this every week 3 times or more you'll get into it. n.n

I am more talkative and sometimes childish, but normally I am the silent sadistic asshole who has to comment mostly everything with a few hard words from the background, I just say things how they actually are and I don't give a fuck about people's opinion about myself. uรป
That's why cosplaying him feels like just being myself, I don't have act cute or something like I do for other cosplays, haha! :'D

Nah, I don't really like his japanese voice because I think he is just to slim for this deep voice. I prefer his german one (except the dub texts which give him a touch of stupidity and too much ego, but sometimes it is kind of cute when he asks why something went like this and not that and people are like, 'Ryou, seriously?' o.รด) because it isn't that deep like the japanese but it fits totally on him.

That's really cool! There's always a character you identify with in any anime. I love Ryo, but I seem to be more like Judai in general where I can identify with him. Ryo was my middle school crush, but Judai will always be my bby as the character I'd be comfortable with identifying as.
I love Ryo's personality and attitude, though, so finding someone who's like him makes my day. xD <3 I really love your cosplays of him, too.
I grew up hearing is English voice, so I prefer that, but in the clip you sent me I can't help but love that voice, too. Still mature, but gawjus nonetheless. uvu

Uhm yup but most of the time I wasn't flashed enough about an anime to find another character that 'fits perfect' on me.
It's Kaiser since I was uhm 11 years old? And I am turning 19 this december. C:

I can tell you a little story: When I was in the 7th grade I got a little particle of aluminium in my left eye and I wasn't able to see anything clearly for about 4 weeks. But I had a dream, every night. And I found a name. Zaphirรจ. You speak it like the german word for Sapphire, like uhm Zafeer in english pronounciation.
That time I started to write this fanfiction about GX and "Zaphirรจ" was a soul name of Ryou. But that time I was totally obsessed with Manjoume, everything was like OHMYGAWD Manjoume-kun. <3
I didn't know why I was identifieng myself with Ryou "Zaphirรจ" and not with Manjoume because at the first times I watched GX Ryou was just Shou's older brother and nobody special for me.
After all these years, I think it was late 2012 I recognized that Zaphirรจ isn't just a soul name I used for my fanfiction, it is MY name, the name of my own soul and the reason why I gave it to Ryou and not to Manjoume was that something deep in my mind had known all the time that I am very similiar to Kaiser. It sounds childish or maybe like fangirl bullshit but it is just the truth and it helped me understand myself.
Because I don't act like him because I like his character, I act like him because he's randomly like me most of the time, about 98% if we're talking in numbers.
I did a big analysis about every character for this fanfiction for years because I just wanted to write them exactly how they would act in the Anime or Manga. Just because I did so many mistakes in characterization when I started with writing in 2006.
And I think Kaiser is - like me - one of the most complicated personalities you can find. As example he is shier than his little brother but he is very good in managing his behavior so you really really have to analyze him good to get into that.
So about 7 years later I did many contacts with people from the anime/manga and cosplay scene and after all this time I found people who have this interesting similarity with some GX characters like me and we call us just for amusement the 'real life GX group' just because we act usually without doing any role playing like the characters from GX.
It is kind of funny and sometimes weird but it is a fact that our friendship is really powerful and unbreakable because of that.
But everybody knows it is just fun and we don't have any psycho problems with that. We are just who we are, that's it. ^_^~
And it isn't even perfectioned! Hahaha! I am gonna cry. ;//; *runs away with blushy face*
German voice actors have mostly really strong and powerful voices who fit perfectly in these characters most of the time. ^^
The german voice actor of Manjoume-kun sounds better than the japanese original in my opinion because he has this arrogant and sometimes hysteric sound. :3
I have contact to this voice actor, too and he's sometimes like Manjoume, hahaha. xD

I was lamenting on the details of this piece, since I even drew the cuticles on his nails. xD And his background is canon to the way his bedroom looks in Season 1. I took screenshots.

Ryo isn't that alone. xD He's got plenty of fans, but mostly for Hell Kaiser. I personally love him for everything, really. I like Johan and all, but the general fanbase is all over Spiritshipping like it's the only freakin pairing, and that Judai and Johan are so perfect for each other. They aren't, man. They're too alike. Manjoume's got much better chances if he's not all over Ryo
I love the analysis you gave of his character. i think you're right- he's a bit shyer than Sho when it comes to people. He keeps himself quiet and secluded and only opens up to certain people. He's definitely complicated, especially if you look at the way he acts after season 2 where he never really told anybody about his heart condition. What a man.
That's really neat about you, though! I wish I knew my "soul's name" xD;; Some people have those experiences, and I find it to be pretty damn epic.

Oh my gosh same here. Majesticshipping is really rare to find, with only a few good fanfictions that I'd be interested in reading as a whole in existence, so when I come across one I tend to put everything down and read it (That happened in the middle of this picture.)
The unfortunate part is that GX is past it's prime and there aren't a lot of people who watched it past the first and second season to see how it really took a huge turn, so the fanbase is pretty small. I happened to get back into it pretty hardcore because my sister downloaded it in Japanese. Rewatching it and fangirling over Ryo is seriously the life, man.
I don't think I've seen any Seto/Ryo anywhere, which means I need to make the fanbase myself. :u

Yeah, it's really hard for a fanbase to stay all that active once the source material is finished and GX was sadly never very popular amongst the Yu-Gi-Oh fandom as a whole... But even when the fandom was bigger I always hard trouble finding work about the ships I liked involving Ryo, because everyone was writing Ryo/Edo, which doesn't interest me personally. I ended up just writing tons of Ryo/Fubuki fics myself, because there were so few. ;w;

Ryo/Edo doesn't interest me in the least. I can see the dynamic, but in my interest for Ryo I don't think he'd go for that after his fall from grace LOL It's like dating the person who ruined your life.
I've seen some pretty good fics, but not lately. I found one AU that I legitimately spazzed over only to realize it hasn't been updated in six years. It was so well-written and hasn't even gotten to the good stuff yet. This one was Majesticshipping. xD
If I were more into Ryo/Fubuki I would draw more, but in this dynamic the phrase my Ryo would use most often is "He's an amazing friend, but a terrible lover" and I guess that stuck in my head kfjsdg

There's a lot of wrinkles and they are REALLY TIGHT.
That, and it's difficult to find reference for in the particular mood lighting I had for the picture. xD Shading them usually is a pain, but it turned out to be mild compared to his hair.

Both are kinda it. Mostly because they are black, or at least a dark purple in a dark room, so the shading was difficult. xD
Thank you! The lighting was hard to figure out because all the windows in his room are on one wall for the balcony. I legit made the room so canon it hurts. If you look at screenshots (the episode's called "Maiden in Love" if you really want to see it, because I had to take screenies myself to get them) I pretty much yoinked the scenery directly with some artistic stylization for his couch.

Here's what happened. Even though the interior designer did not know Zane intimately, he felt he could see through him, to his functional being rather than the thing he shows the world. And that understanding led him to use pink in the room.
The important part is, of course, the fact that Zane did not call anyone out on this choice. This was simply because the interior designer was right.
