Thank you BG, I often worry a bit when my pieces turn out to be somewhat bizarre color-wise. Whether it is a drawing or a painting depends upon who you ask - I consider this a pastel painting because I construct it mostly using shapes vs lines, that I get color mixtures by layering directly on the paper, and I use the pastel sticks similar to one might use a brush, with its variants of different ways of applying pigment. The only difference is that pastels are dry pigments and paints wet. (I also do pastel drawings, which tend to be line dominated.) Most pastelists think along these same lines. However, DA seems to have a hard and fast rule that pastels can only be drawings and not paintings. Hence, painting groups will not accept pastel pieces. I have tried to educate dA, but to no avail. But, of course the semantics makes no difference - either the end result is pleasing is the bottom line. Thanks for asking though. Best, Barrie

I agree with you on this. When I made the comment it was because of how DA list the category. I think when you blend your basically painting. Many of your pastels are paintings in my opinion. One of my favorites is the one of the oranges in the glass bowl. That painting is so perfect and very painterly.
