I had a big crush on Medli as a kid. I always put meticulous care and effort into ensuring nothing does her any harm when playing through the Earth Temple.

understandable
sadly I never got to play Wind Waker or Majora's Mask as a kid, so the closest I got to a Zelda waifu was Midna

I haven't played Wind Waker yet, (though I want to, I've heard good things about it,) but I've heard about Medli. What do you think makes her so cute? Is it her personality or something?

Medli's my favorite WW character, largely due to how cute she is. Most of her cuteness just comes from her physical design. I probably find her to be the cutest Nintendo character. But a lot of her cuteness also comes from her personality. She's actually a really serious character. Like, she looks cute, and has goofy moments like getting googly eyes if you accidentally throw her at a wall, but she's really determined to be great at her job. She's always trying to act very serious and respectful and it's just so adorable to see a cute little girl act so serious, kind of like when a little kid tries to act intellectual or professional - it's just cute. I really like how they handled her. No doubt had she been a new character in a more recent Zelda game she would have just been loud and wacky and winking while flashing peace signs and crap all the time. Sadly, the Zelda team seemed to largely stoop to the generic anime fan level of "cute" when designing characters now. If a character's supposed to be cute, they just act obnoxious and are trying as hard as they can with every line of dialogue to prove to you that the character is supposed to be cute.

I'll admit the "beak-nose" looks kinda unusual on her, but just from the rest of her design, as well as the way you described her, with how she tries to act all serious and intelligent, she does admittedly sound rather cute. The Rito are bird-like people, right? I get the feeling we'll see her with wings at some point.
You keep mentioning the "loud wacky winking while flashing peace signs" thing, but I can't think of any examples of characters that actually do that.

Yeah, she does have wings but... I don't really get how. Most Rito in WW Have their wings always hanging from their arms like a bat or pterodactyl (but feathery bird wings) but then when they fly, the arm seemingly vanishes and they just have wings. In others' case, the wings aren't at all visible until they fly, in which their arms seemingly just sort of disappear and become wings instead. This is extra odd in Medli's case as her entire arms are exposed with extremely short sleeves, so her arms just kind of transform into wings in the blink of an eye. It makes no sense at all, but she's even cute flying with her wings out, so whatever.
As for the wacky girls...
Purah in Breath of the Wild... ugh
And it isn't actually official, but Lana in Hyrule Warriors fits the mold to a tee
Just many villagers who are meant to be cute girls in newer Zeldas are generally more obnoxious, loud, and exaggerated, like Kina from Skyward Sword.

Ah, ok.
Speaking of Breath Of The Wild, how is that game so far?

Ah, not for me. I love Zelda. It's my favorite gaming franchise, but I just didn't really like anything about BotW. I seem to be alone on it, though, so I'll just say it isn't bad but not for me. I beat it a while ago and haven't really touched the Switch since. Next time I pick it up will likely be for Arms.

I see. I haven't tried it myself, either. Mostly because I don't have a Nintendo Switch. Outside of the 3DS and Steam, my game consoles are largely old school.
On an unrelated note, can I just say the Korok don't interest me at all? I have no idea why they had to replace the Kokiri with these things, and I know there's that whole timeline baloney where they evolved from the Kokiri or whatever it was, but from what little I've seen of them, they don't have the same charm.

Here's a meme for you. Picture Medli using her harp to reflect light onto a ReDead and imagine the following written underneath:

She's-a firin' her lazah!

I wish they would make a new Zelda game where you have two characters in each dungeon.
π: 0 β©: 1
DracoPhobos In reply to BrendanCorris [2014-12-20 22:59:19 +0000 UTC]
that'd be a little complicated...but maybe you could go about other levels and towns as different people
π: 0 β©: 1
BrendanCorris In reply to DracoPhobos [2014-12-20 23:46:43 +0000 UTC]
I feel the towns and all would be more complicated. If there's a seperate ally only within each dungeon, like Medli and Makar, it would work a lot easier than a messy character swapping sort of idea, and wouldn't take away from Link still being the lead character. It could also add an extra challenge to the game, as before you enter any dungeon, you must first find the correct ally to accompany you.

DracoPhobos In reply to BrendanCorris [2014-12-20 23:52:18 +0000 UTC]
but who would you play as on dragon roost and haven forest if the characters from those places are in the wind/earth temples? (kinda funny how medli is the earth sage and makar is the wind sage too)

BrendanCorris In reply to DracoPhobos [2014-12-21 00:08:10 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I never got why they were the opposite sages they should have been.Β
In the theoretical game I was talking about, there wouldn't be Medli and Makar. I meant they should make a whole new Zelda game, but make the dungeons work that way in it. Whoever the new characters are, some could end up being allies in dungeons.

No specific release date has been announced yet, but it is slated for 2015. They first showed footage of it at E3 last June, then this past month they released more gameplay footage.
