I really like this! It's somehow mysterious, because two of the faces can't be seen. The angle makes the photo even more interesting.

I have to root through some of my old photography books. Your work reminds me of a New York street photographer, he was working in the 60s, his name escapes me now. It was one of his street shots made me want to give it a go.

I'd be interested to know if you ever find out. One of the reasons I agreed to be GM is to push me to look more at others work and I'm really enjoying it.

I am searching for the book, I know it's not buried too deep in the
collection... it's just I have too many books. Naw, you can't have too many books

Amazing brian.
I'd suggest it for a DD, but I don't think you'd feature it

LOL actually, people have been sending me DD suggestion notes of my own stuff.

"I'm sorry, but I can't feature this photo. It's mine."

Thanks so much for the thought, Tom

this is unjust for your pictures.
can't any other moderator feature them?

bQw In reply to StamatisGR [2009-01-30 10:20:00 +0000 UTC]

I really don't know. Maybe PJ (like ^Helewidis or :devestudio), but I don't think so. Nowadays, I get occasional props in others journals and that's always a treat.

I don't mind, though. I've received some DD recognition in the past and know I'm trying to do my part to actively seek out and recognize others who deserve it. That's why I volunteered for this gig.

I'd love to make a journal with your works,
but some dA members are so narrow minded...

bQw In reply to StamatisGR [2009-01-30 10:42:33 +0000 UTC]

Everyone is narrow-minded in a personal sense. I'm narrow-minded in how I take my photos...I think it's part of how I'm able to translate my "mind's eye" interpretation of a scene on to film.

But I'm very open-minded when it comes to other's work because everyone's "mind's eye" is unique and there are many other ways available for them to get what they see on to a medium the way they want it.

Even hip-shooting

StamatisGR In reply to bQw [2009-01-30 11:06:40 +0000 UTC]

I was refering to narrow minded people who could think that I feature your works because you are a gallery moderator and not because I really like your works.

As for hip-shooting now...
Imagine you are walking down a street and I'm sitting at an open cafe. The moment you are passing in front of me I raise my camera aim at you and shoot you from a 2 meters distance. It's impossible for you not to see me. So I get a picture of a surprised Brian instead of the picture of a Brian that merely walks down the street. I intruded in your life getting back a reaction from you. The picture I got, shows how Brian is when he is surprised by a camera, it does not show Brian as he is. If I had just left my camera on the coffee table or on my lap and pressed the shutter release, then, I might had the chance (with a wide angle lens) to shoot Brian without interfering in his life
Back in the film era I had a device like a fake lens with a 45 degrees mirror in it. You could screw it in front of your normal lens and take pictures from your sides. Unfortunately, I gave it to a friend and he lost it.

bQw In reply to StamatisGR [2009-01-30 11:15:52 +0000 UTC]

Ahh, but my point was that if I saw you down the street camera-out and shooting as if you had purpose (i.e. like it was your job) by the time you got to me I would just assume that you were doing what you were supposed to be doing and not care.

If I saw you shoot me quickly in a sneaky fashion (i.e. from the hip and a quick walk-off) I'd be pissed and maybe even report you to the nearest cop I could find.

Like I said, my own practice may be narrow but my interpretation is more open then that...in fact, tomorrow's DD will be a hip-shot
