Description I'm so pleased to be able to present this collection at last. I think to really understand Kala's culture and background, we need to know her people. No one person is an effective representation of their entire race. The Hantae, like Humans, come in all shapes and sizes. Not to mention different shades of blue
So to help paint a clearer picture of the culture on Ursus, lets take a look at its primary inhabitants: The Hantae.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

(From top left to right)
The Hantae's ears are not only beautiful in design, they're also incredibly in-tuned. Equipped with some of the best hearing of any intelligent race in the galaxy, there is a significant amount of risk when it comes to noise exposure, especially for new born babies. As an evolutionary trait, and as a means of protecting their sensitive ears at birth, Hantae infants are born deaf and develop their heightened sense of hearing roughly 3-6 months later. While their ears mature and become more resilient to the assault of everyday noise, Hantae children wear protective ear muffs until it's safe for them to go without. It's a cultural right of passage when a young Hantae grows into their hearing and are able to leave their muffs behind. This usually takes place around the start of adolescence, which for Hantae typically begins between ages 8 to 10.

White is the most popular color for fashion on Ursus. Gossamer linens and silks are very common and stem from their traditional heritage. In areas where the majority of the population are Hantae, loose, flowing clothing is commonly worn. Hantae are less concerned about covering their bodies than they are about covering their ears, especially with the warm, humid climate that spans most of their planet.

The closer you get to large cities, the more bright, vibrant colors begin to bead into their fashion. Hantae styles also become more conservative and modern in more diverse areas. Aliens have been welcomed on Ursus for over 200 years now, but it is in the presence of other species where Hantae begin to hold their modesty more dear.

Ears are always covered, but there are many different styles of covering available. It's up to the individual to decide if they'd like to show their hair or not. In today's modern culture, almost everyone does.

The beads they wear stems from a culture tradition that has been with the Hantae since the beginning of their civilization. Beads are used to commemorate significant moments in a person's life. But each bead chain is unique to the individual that wears it. Each Hantae get's to choose the achievements or memories in their life that they would like to carry with them. A doctor, for example, would likely carry a bead after completing their medical training.
The number of beads a person wears can reveal a lot about a person's character. Someone adorned in too many beads might be seen as boastful, while someone who carries very few beads might project a sense of self doubt.
Wearing beads is an act in self reflection. They encourage meditation and an overall improvement of the self.

The nuptial crown seen in the far right image on the top is worn by both men and women on their wedding night. After an elaborate ceremony, the couple retreat to private accommodations in which they present themselves to one another in their most vulnerable and beautiful state. The veils are made of a trademark Hantae technology which is able to coat and silence almost any material -so as not to disturb the sensitive organ.
Modern couples might see their partner's ears before marriage, but it is still very uncommon.

On the bottom left we see a noble couple dressed to attend the Hantae High Court. Here, the two cultural fashion trends collide. White is the only color allowed in Court. The outfits are also considerably more conservative.
Jewelry and accessories are fairly uncommon, but when they exist they are almost always made of industrial metals, never something flashy such as gold or gemstones.

The gentleman to their right is likely a professor or a scholar. His deep maroon attire, similar to the colors Kala wore after she left Ursus, is taken as a sign of piety and mourning. People who dress this way are requesting peace, seeking time to reflect and process their thoughts or emotions.

The final figure is an experienced soldier. Due to her elaborate uniform, she is likely a presidential guard. Men and women train and fight side-by-side in the Ursurian military. In their culture, masculinity is more-so associated with the concept of physical strength, but there exists no stigma toward either sex when it comes to excellence in combat. Stereotypes between genders is significantly less than other common alien cultures.

Woo! Alright, that's enough for now. I hope you've enjoyed learning more about Kala's people and where she comes from.

If you have any questions, PLEASE don't hesitate to ask. I've got loads more to say about these beautiful blue babies and I would love to tell you more.

For now, enjoy!

Holy crap, they all look so magnificent!! I love how in depth you got with their culture and the symbolism with the jewels and their clothing! And I love that they're born death and then get protective ear muffs, that's adorable. X3 Plus, your art style is just fucking beautiful! I haven't seen anything from you in so long and I missed it!! <3 And a question I have is do they ever get made fun of for their muffs? Either by other aliens or those in their race?

Oh my goodness, thank you so so much!
I'm so flattered you like them

I'm sorry for the delay in posting lately. It's hard to find time to color and post as often as I used to with work and everything else. But I'm still drawing every day! I'll just have to share sketches more often ^ ^

Awesome question! Hantae kids might get teased if they're still wearing muffs after a certain age. A similar comparison might be human kids who are still using training wheels when their friends are riding bikes. But that's typically not a problem. Other alien kids usually wouldn't tease a Hantae about their muffs unless they're new to this planet and are unfamiliar with the culture. It's the norm for a certain age range on Ursus.

Thanks for asking!

Fantastic work, and I love the lore behind it! Where did the ideas for them originally come from, if I might ask?

Thank you so much!
My idea for the Hantae came from my fascination with Indian and Malaysian culture. Their use of head-wraps and turbans is so beautiful to me, and it inspired me to find a way to incorporate that fashion into a character trait. I figured if it covers their ears, maybe there's an alien reason behind that. So instead of coming up with a new way to do pointy or exaggerated ears, I decided to make them inverted, and modeled their design off the spiraling shape of a sea shell

Interesting concept =3 I'd call that a pretty creative way of near-human-but-not-human anatomy and clothing preferences!
