"Reminder to Canderous Commanders, the Canderous is an Assault Tank, not a boat." - Excerpt from the Canderous Assault Tank Owner's Manual.

The Canderous Assault Tank, named after Mand'alor the Preserver, was developed during the early days of the Galactic Civil War. Initially designed on the order of the Imperial Governor of Mandalore, the Canderous was meant to serve as a formidable and deadly front-line tank meant to assist in "maintaining order" within the Empire, offering up a Repulsor-lift tank that could go places that the AT-AT could not. Fortunately for the Empire's enemies, the Empire deemed the design as too costly for their purposes and passed on the design. However Mandal Hypernautics went ahead and produced several tanks for wealthy private owners. Perhaps the most notorious of their customers was the crime lord Tyber Zann, who acquired a large number of these tanks for service within the Zann Consortium. Rebel and Imperial alike grew to rightfully fear the sight of the Canderous tanks whenever they showed up, something which made the Mandalorian design teams responsible for the tanks exceedingly pleased. A few months prior to the Battle of Endor, the Mandalorians themselves utilized every available Canderous tank they had in reserve and forced the Empire off of Mandalore in a mass uprising which the Emperor was content to leave be for the time being as he was more focused on keeping his forces in reserve for the trap he would attempt (and ultimately fail) to use against the Rebels at Endor. After the war and as Tyber Zann went into seclusion, the tanks started to slowly disappear from active service. The fledgling New Republic acquired a few from captured Zann Consortium forces and used them against the Imperial Remnant for a time but ultimately phased them out.

With the major conflicts in the Galaxy winding down, the Mandalorians had a number of tanks on hand which they happily sold to various buyers such as wealthy warlords, mercenary groups, para-military groups, etc. The Mandalorians themselves kept the largest stock of the tanks for themselves. It's not at all an uncommon sight to see a Canderous moving down the street of a busy Mandalorian town. Over time, the Mandalorians worked on finding new ways of improving the design. The biggest flaw was the tanks' relatively weak anti-infantry capabilities. Arguably the best solution were a pair of twin repeating blaster cannons but the power requirements would be too much for the tank's already formidable power cells. The solution to this was to make the concussion missile launcher optional, allowing the weapons to be switched out and save power.

By 28 ABY, the Mandalorians had built up enough numbers of Canderous units to supply an army, something which Mand'alor the Beskar (Boba Fett) was counting on. After the Evacuation of Yavin and the Assault on Coruscant at the outbreak of the Shadow War, Mand'alor opened negotiations with the Republic to supply them with weapons and vehicles to assist the Republic war effort against the newly emerged Sith Empire. The Republic has since adopted large numbers of these tanks which have proven exceedingly useful on the front lines, a pair of Canderous units being more than capable of taking down the Sith's answer to the Imperial AT-AT, the Dominator Walker.

The Canderous is also considered the older brother to the smaller Kad Class Fighter Tank which serves as the Mandalorian's answer to the old TX-130 Saber Class Fighter Tanks used by the Old Republic during the Clone Wars. Ironically, Kad is Mandalorian for saber.

What I like about the Canderous Assult Tank is that it is specificly built for war. Many of the Rebellions veichles looks like they are just repurposed civillian tools while the Empire has gone the route of terror before efficient design. The mandalorians on the other hand knows how a real war is fought and it is clearly shown in how the Canderous was armed and designed for maximum combat effiency.

I agree with your points except for the Empire. Imperial starships (i.e. Tie Fighters) i would say yes, they're meant for terror more than efficiency, but i'd argue that their ground vehicles are not just terror but also warfare. The AT-ATs for example, many Rebels knew that if they didn't have the right vehicles to counter them, they'd lose. There's a line from the old EU "We had the Battle of Gormen won, until the AT-ATs arrived. They came out of the fog and ripped apart the front lines. The locals ran in terror, but the experienced soldiers surrendered. We knew that you can't outrun an AT-AT" - From Wookieepedia. So the Empire's ground vehicles are easily their more formidable war machines.
