And a painful reminder of how long it's been since I've finished a serious art piece.

Marvelous. That's the only word I could find to fit it. Of course, I'm sure there are more, longer, and somehow more sophisticated synonyms outside of my knowledge but I don't want to look them up in a thesaurus.
Darn, even though I draw real good something like this might take YEARS to do.

Thank you. I didn't exactly finish this in one sitting, though!
To be honest, I went in a little over my head with this. Kind of like a Photoshop trial-by-fire.

So, you tried to test yourself? lol, that's how I always feel when I do my drawings.
Darn, if only I could get my scanner workin'

Very beautiful indeed.
I especially love the background, and its symbolism.

Yeah, you finished it!
Overall, the colouring and shading of the three characters stands out from the background. The foreground blends in with them, which is great, because after all, the foreground is where they are.
I love the detail on the mountain, as well as how each side of it is a different part of the day. On our left is the night, which is perfect considering Umbreon is on that side, and on our right is day break, perfect for Espeon. Lucario being in the middle somewhat breaks that feel, as he's (according to the evolutionary status, anyway) an afternoon PokΓ©mon, and there isn't much to symbolize afternoon in the background there. All things considered, though, it would be pretty tough to have him still in the middle and have it as a nightfall theme around his area, because the sun and moon are on opposite sides.

Thank you...I think.
Personally, I believe you're overthinking the background. I chose twilight - the time just as the sun is setting and moon rises. It was fitting have the moon and sun for Umbreon and Espeon, and I felt having Lucario in the middle fit as well, as he seems to have light and dark sides to himself (as far as he has been portrayed).
As for the background symbolizing the Pokemon, I did struggle over choosing a one for Lucario. The obvious answer would be Aura, but how is that symbolized? It's life, after all. Adding a blue glow around Lucario would draw too much attention to him (vs. Umbreon or Espeon). I eventually settled on a mountain towering over the others, alluding to his preffered habitat and seemingly legendary strength as a character in himself (one of the only non- legendaries that can learn Aura Sphere, that idea).
I have no knowledge of any Pokemon game past Blue, so knowing Lucario was a "afternoon" Pokemon was impossible for me at the time.

True, Lucario are depicted in the mainstream things as living on mountains and the like. Add it to the fact that it is your gift art, and in it, the Lucario lives on the mountains. Then it doesn't seem so bad.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Knowing you liked how this turned out means a lot.
As for the background, well, there's a bit of story behind it. I noticed that in TLoC, you always had Halyn and Silica watching the moon set and sun rise. I felt that, seeing as this was your request, it would mean more if I incorporated that idea. The time when both celestial bodies are in the sky - twilight -fit the scene immediatley.
I should really thank you for requesting this. I learned a lot about Photoshop drawing it.
Thanks again, Prime. I'm very happy that you liked it!
