Whew! I'm glad to be finished this piece!
I spent the latter part of today watching the US Open and though I love watching tennis, my attention span is short so I decided to draw whilest I did. And upon pulling out my sketchbook, the first thing I saw was my incomplete Jack portrait. Since the comments suggested I should attempt to finish it, I did.
This bugger took me a while. My [right] hand is a little cramped and my fingers were the smudgiest [inked] i've ever seen before. But I do like the way it turned out. Thanks to 3 trusty regular ol' No. 2 pencils and a dang good eraser [plus some minor touch-ups to remove specs and clean the 'white-space'], the work is finally completed. I see an error or two in the shading but by the end of tonight I was pretty much tired of making shadows and smudging black so I just stopped and considered it finished.
Thank you to everyone who left positive encouragement to complete this piece. I hope you like the finished work!

Wow, excellent shading here! The proportions are very accurate; seriously, it looks just like Jack! The composition is pretty good and I love the amount of effort you put into all the details. It really paid off. I agree with whoever said that the hat was the best part. The shading there is very good. I think his eye looks a tad too smudged, but excellent work. I'd like to be able to draw portraits of this skill level.

Your shading is smooth and done well, I would darken the darkest areas, almost black, that will bring out your drawing even more, it will make it pop!!

Just a thought... if you wanted to make your pencil drawings more dynamic (not just this one, but in general), you might try adding in some darker tones... with say a 5B or 6B pencil?

i love how soft all the tones and shading are! profiles are exceedingly difficult for me, so i really envy this! looks exactly like Jack! love the shading on his hat especially!

Excellent shading. I like it. Good job! ^.^ I have sometimes trouble with finishing, too. The work is clearly done and I just keep on shading and smudging

Very well shaded, though outlineing parts of the hair, belt clasp and beads didn't seem necessary. Otherwise very well done, I congrat you! ^^

yea, i tend to outline details whilest i'm working on it so that i can separate one thing from the other when shading, but then forget that you can't really undo a dark outline. but thanks for the comment, i'll remember that
