"Draw a character walking OR going on an adventure"

---

I told myself I wasn't going to draw Octamum and Octadad in the training grounds.
Then I told myself I was only going to draw them once every five images.
Then today's challenge criteria was posted, and I though 'Screw it!'.

Also, I can draw ponies walking to save my life. Now you see why there's usually a convenient table in most of my drawings!

Originally I was going to have them walking through a poppy field parodying the famous painting my Monet, but then once again I decided to put them in surrounding that are very near me, even if I haven't been to this place in over ten years!

Middleton Top was once a small halt on the Cromford and High Peak Railway in Derbyshire. Unlike any other station though, there wasn't a platform or any sign that it was indeed a halt at all. All there was the massive red brick winding engine that control the cables to haul and lower the trucks up and down the steep incline just in front of it. You see, when the railway was built, it was done so by men who had only built canals, so they designed it in a similar style, with trains going along short straight sections, and then being hauled up the steeply graded hills by winding engines at six different places, much like a canal lock system. The gradients themselves are that steep that I reckon even a modern car would struggle to climb them, they're very impressive.

Strangely, with such a dangerous design system, there was only one major incident recorded during the railways operation. This occurred when three wagons, one filled with gunpowder and two overloaded with limestone, caused one of the winch cables to snap. They careered down the inclined track at a tremendous rate, even more surprisingly not derailing on their decent! When they reached the canal wharf at the bottom of the line they smashed straight through the buffers, jumped into the air, flew over the canal and landed in a field, battered, but unharmed...Until the gunpowder exploded a few seconds later! XD

Today, as seen here, the old railway has been turned into a public bridleway. But the winding house and the engine inside it still remain and function. With a single wag at the crest of the incline reminding people of days gone by...

Such an adorable style and great work with the background and everything. Also did I somehow miss something with Octavia's parents or is it just some fanon thing? Great work !

Nah, don't worry, it's nothing official.

Truth be told when I originally drew them here:

I only intended to use them once and never again. But people just love them to much to let them go like that!

I really like the names you've given for Octavia's parents!

Actually, they don't have official names as of yet, yet people started nicknaming them Octamum and Octadad, so that'll do until something official works out!

I've been past Middleton Top before. I am also very happy that Octamum and Octadad have appeared again. This looks brilliant, as per usual, my friend.

Thanks, though I feel the green on the grass came out far to scratchy.Β I put it down to exhaustion having created this just after I got home from work. It's been a long day!

I think the scratchiness looks good though! It gives a variety of shades and directions of movement that you get in real grass.

You sir are awesome. Not only is your art great, your style cute enough to give a timber wolf diabetes and your humor excellent. But with your more recent work each piece has it's own story, both the one being told in the scene itself and the history of the place your drawing. I know I'm just a random person on the internet but You shouldn't be so modest about your art.

Let me tell you, you're not just a random person on the Internet. You can take what little skills you have, share them amongst thousands of people, and feel you've achieved something. It just takes guts.

It's how I got here!
