Carnac in Brittany, north-west France, is famous for its neolithic alignments of standing stones. There are also other features, including this tomb in the Kermario area. It is of a type called a dolmen (or quoit or portal tomb). Made up of parallel walls of standing stones with bigger cap stones on top, it would originally have been covered with a mound of earth. It is quite small but would have held the remains of several people.

The oldest stones and dolmens are over 6,000 years old. Their exact meaning and purpose has been the subject of much speculation, but whatever it was the area is a very impressive sight.

Thank you!

I try to share places I have been that other people may not be able to get to.  And some background info does not take long to write but can make the photo much more meaningful.
