Description "The wildest rumors are circulating about the eastern pack: it is said that the wolves found an oddly shaped cub in this year's litter, one that looks like a skinny piglet with extremely elongated limbs.
In the absence of direct eye witness, the rumor is not yet supported by tangible evidence, but crows are actively investigating the matter as we speak."

Another piece for my "Rúndawald" series. We're now in a darker part of the magical forest!
I love this kind of atmosphere, and I always wanted to paint a forest and some wolves by a full-moon night

Looks creepier than Mogli from the Jungle Book!

Nice idea with the rabbit to cover his naughty parts....

Blunell In reply to Panartias [2019-10-21 01:12:20 +0000 UTC]

To be honest, I had forgotten about the Jungle Book So legends and historical records about feral children were my inspiration. I found such stories fascinating.

Aaand ummm, yes, that rabbit Fun fact: the feral child had visible willy and balls at first. But I thought it might be inappropriate and against DA's ToS to post a depiction of a naked child with his private parts visible, even if it makes sense in the context (feral childten were fully naked and couldn't bear to wear any clothes after they were captured). So I added the rabbit to hide things, just like you said

Yeah - your feral child has wolf eyes and ears...
...and no loincloth as you said.

And yes, probably better to stay on the save side!

Aaaaaah ! This is extremely cool, really amazing work
The atmosphere is so good especially with the full moon and the lighting that it is creating, really well done
Wolves are badass and the character at the center of it too, great job

Blunell In reply to Anniihilation [2019-10-21 00:56:17 +0000 UTC]

(Google translate-------don't be sorry baby~ ;3)

Did you use any reference?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Blunell In reply to Fotoref [2019-10-20 10:49:12 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I had to use references for the wolves in the early stages: it was my first time painting this animal and I needed to know where the face markings should be, and how far apart the eyes and ears were.
So I looked at photos while sketching some wolves heads on paper (as this was meant to be a traditional piece for Inktober at first), then again for blocking out the main colors underneath when I decided to switch to digital. The rest was easy to figure out.

Profound and absolutely beautiful! You did such a marvelous job on this! ^_^ I'd say the moon is just right! Some people may not notice, but some nights IRL the moon can really light up the sky, so it's almost crazy-bright. Your moon isn't "crazy-bright", but I think it's a really good rendition of the moon on a cool, crisp night! The bits of clouds actually accentuate the brightness of the moon. Looks awesome! Way to go!

Blunell In reply to CrystallineDreamer [2019-10-21 00:13:55 +0000 UTC]

Aww, thank you so much, buddy! We do have this crazy-bright moon phenomenon in France on a regular basis. Especially when it's full moon, my bedroom is so well-lit I can see every nook and cranny all night long. It always induces sleeping issues, though. Not cool

CrystallineDreamer In reply to Blunell [2019-10-21 00:45:07 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome!! Cool! I'm glad someone else knows about how bright the Moon can shine! Your piece kind of reminded me of back in high school when I had to defend a painting in class-critique over the class thinking the moon was too bright. I couldn't believe that none of them had ever noticed a moon like that! It's amazing how many people can miss "little" things like that. lol

Ooooo! I bet that's a pain! The moon may not shine in my window, but when the days get longer in the late Spring and up to the Summer Solstice and it gets light around starting around 3am, I have trouble sleeping. Even with the blinds closed because the sun starts shining around the sides, and the birds start singing. I don't usually MIND bird songs, but not at 3am. lol XD

BTW, I keep forgetting to say that I really like your Autumn avatar! Looks great!

I had totally forgotten about the Jungle Book ^^ It was inspired by stories about feral children that I read not long ago.

IamNoOneSpecial1 In reply to Blunell [2019-10-21 12:41:48 +0000 UTC]

Well... Mowgli IS a feral child as well... and it wouldn't surprise me if such stories led Kipling to write the Jungle Book.
