There is something about the way that that the 3-D object seems to just emerge from the 2-D drawing that just makes me think of MC Escher.

I like this better than the original. You've really gone out of your way to ensure that the fractal patters don't interfere with the solidity and depth of the perforated sphere. Nicely done!
