Description
Using Photoshop, I first created each individual sprite on a 100-Pixel by 100-Pixel canvas. For each character, I made sure that I had used the same types of colours. This was so the process would be easier when making each individual sprite. Therefore also making them stay in one style and not clash in any way. Each time a character was drawn, they would be aligned with others that were already completed. Each character varies in height. The first 2 characters are of the same height, but the 3rd character is slightly shorter as opposed to the last who is the tallest. So I would compare the completed characters to the ones I was working on, and this was so that they would stay in proportion to one another.
The animation that was in this GIF was made by using a lighter colour layer. This layer would be over the character's names in order. Each name would have about 6 frames, and these frames would have 0.5 seconds between them. The 1st, 3rd, and 5th frame would have the orange layer visible. therefore the 2nd, 4th and 6th layer would remove the visibility of the colour. The main canvas' overall size is around 377 - 135 pixels. This is to fit each character with their selection space in the image. The name, “pick a character title” and my signature alongside them. When saving the piece, I used the save to web option that is located in the file tab. I made sure the option under present was set to GIF, Upping the Percentage to 1000 pixels. Also changing the quality to Nearest Neighbour in order to make the image clear.
This idea came about when a friend had mentioned that they were making a game. From sprites to background and elements. I liked the idea, so I would have a go at drawing my characters in a pixel art form to see how the results would look. This would also help to give me variations of creative outlooks on how to present my personal story. that in which involves these characters. To in a way, give me a more visible concept and option in how I could present my story.
One thing that I wish I had done, was that I should have illustrated the characters in a way to display their personality traits. For an example of this, involves the last character Speedy. I could have drawn him in a way that gave off his free and hyper nature. Or with the first character Bunny, I could have presented his cocky, overly confident nature. To do this, I could have given him a proud and slick pose. Also giving him a Smug yet cocky expression. This would have given the characters a more appealing look to them. Also making them a diverse selection for people to choose from.
