Description

So, sooooo much jewelry. With soooooooooo many details. UGH. I killed my hand sketching this out.

Part of my style practice, focusing on jewelry here. Aisling gets to look rather regal for once. Normally I just go for normal levels of cute/pretty/beauty in her drawings, but after sifting through my reference images for the Anatolian/Hittite styles ((I can't find good images for these on google or elsewhere, so I'm referring to Shinohara Chie's historical fiction/romance series, Anatolia Story, aka Red River)) I decided to draw Aisling in some of my favorite pieces.

I was particularly inspired by an image from Volume 3, Chapter 9, Page 77, in which the main character is in tons of jewelry and long robes typically worn for women at the time. Just a little information: the main character is a girl named Yuri, initially from modern-day Japan, who is pulled back through time and space into the ancient Hittite Empire by the Dowager Empress. She is found and kept safe by one of the empire's princes, Kail Mursili (the second?) under the false pretenses that she is his concubine. In Chapter 9 of the third volume, Yuri attends a celebration with Prince Kail as his only concubine, and is sort-of bullied into dressing more like a lady ((she's a tomboy)) by the Dowager Empress. Funny thing is she ends up stunning the heck out of everybody, even the Dowager Empress. I personally love the jewelry she wears. I'm not super girly, but I like the rare occassion when wearing something especially pretty and sparkly is proper.

And dear LORD I do NOT want to ink this. My hand huuurrrrtttsss.

Okay, back to school work. -sigh-

I thing her neck and shoulders just look weird because of the jewelry...But I dunno. I was focusing on the jewelry more than anatomy in this one It's part of a 'fashion study' I'm doing to vary my knowledge of drawing different textures.

Nah, that's not what's going on here. I honestly just think it was me being a lazy twat with anatomy. Had to get all that jewelry on there somehow! But if you look up the image I'm talking about...or rather, let me link it: [link]

That's what I got the inspiration from. I friggin LOVE Anatolia Story. It's one of the best series I've read so far. It's a shame they haven't turned it into an anime. I always loved this exotic sort of jewelry...Bohemian, Vintage, and Nouveau styles tend to emphasize it because they blend the old with the new. As soon as I finish losing weight, I'm revamping my closet so I can have some awesome outfits like those (But not that pic! Too much!! xD))

Hey! Shinohara Chie is a WONDERFUL artist! I love her stuff! Currently waiting for the 7th chapter of one of her other works to get translated and uploaded to that website. It's called 'The Golden Birdcage' and takes place during the reign of the Ottoman Empire. She does these historical fiction pieces very well. Plus there's lots of steamy romance scenes

x3; Thing with me is that I can't stand romance until it's like REALLY late into a series and I myself love both of the character to the extent that seeing them as a couple makes me drool. If it's from the get go I'm just 'meh' nothing special.

Hm. Well, the romance between Kail and Yuri in 'Anatolia Story' is a fake cover at first, but it becomes real after several chapters. I dunno if you'd like that one...But I adore it~ It makes some decent sense instead of the random 'I LOVE THIS PERSON FROM THE BEGINNING OMG LOVE U FOREVERZ' in most shojou series >>;

<<; I know, I also need some real action in my stories. If it's all domestic stuff I get bored after a while. I also have a hard time 'reading' mangas, I usually just stick to animes.

I am fully aware of that. Even the voice actors did fake proposals to each other's characters during conventions to please the fans. Let's just say you couldn't hear anything for an entire two minutes other than fangirls screaming.

Lol. Thanks for the compliment, dear!

But I'm afraid I will probaby never ever EVER have enough dedication to force myself to go go over it again in ink

aShadeofGreen62 In reply to Blue-Starr [2012-11-02 00:25:13 +0000 UTC]

Pfft. Who needs ink anyways?

Well, I draw with ink straight on when I go traditional cause I'm badass like that cause I hate it when my pinky goes and smudges all that pencil work into a blotchy mess //weep

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Starr In reply to aShadeofGreen62 [2012-11-02 00:43:36 +0000 UTC]

lol. Smudging is a bitch sometimes. But I'm normally fine with sketching it out then inking; I've done a few straight-on-inkings before, I just like knowing that I like the figures and shapes I've got before making any unfixable lines with ink.
...
Because I'm paranoid like that
