There's only like... two famous Cathar in the Star Wars Universe. Sylvar and Juhani. Cool to see new takes on the species.

Cathar, an "alien" species from Star Wars; the reason you never see them outside of the Old Republic is because the Mandalorian wiped them out during the Mandalorian War, which interestingly enough caused Β Revan to wage war on the Mandalorians. Essentially they are Cat People.Β

They weren't entirely wiped out, but they were definitely in decline. Thanks to the Star Wars EU being canned, we'll likely never see them again though.

remember that the last season of the clone wars referenced the "Old Republic" during the Mandalorian arc so we can be assured that we MIGHT hear something about them.

Two years later on, and to my knowledge they still haven't been brought back into canon.Β Still, I don't see any reason to despair.Β Disney seems determined to play a long, careful game with the Star Wars franchise, and they've been steadily feeding us a supply of new stuff and revamped old stuff.
The cathar weren't ever in the movies, and we didn't see a whole lot of them in the EU, but I expect that Disney'll get around to bringing the cathar back eventually.

Sadly we will likely never see any of the "Sentient Gerbil" (tv tropes term) type aliens (the ones that are humanoid versions of identifiable specific Earth animals) like cats in any of the movies.
