Aftermath:
"Koben has been friends with Reluir for a long time, just like us, and now look at what they've done--"

"Why should I even trust you now? Do all dark elves do this?"

"Yuna... I hope that you won't lie as much to anyone you call your friend in the future, because even after all this time, I never truly knew you."

The words bounce around in her head as she draws her cloak tighter around herself. The chill has settled in her bones, and though the cloak is snug around her shoulders, it will take more than that to bring back the warmth.

With each step she takes, it's a reminder of what she's walking away from. 8 years, close to 9, down the drain, never to be recovered. Nikolai stands somewhere behind her, a memento of a time - of a friendship - she must now bury.

The argument is not solely her fault, she reasons to herself - it is a product of theirs, their pride and prejudice blinding them. But-

This is it, because she will not apologize, will not lower herself, and she thinks that by now Nikolai will not either. It is not a comforting thought, nor should it be one, because only yesterday they'd been quite happily exploring Corrdubh. In a day's span their friendship of 8, almost 9 years, is decimated.

Lives will not be the only thing the war will take, but she thinks, she knows, that the war taking friendships and burning bridges is just as bad.

This is how it is:
Yunalesca regrets. She regrets much, wants to forget more. But the argument is at the forefront of her mind, and with it comes thoughts of what-if.

What if she had never left Reluir? What if she had stayed, kept away from all the racism and stigma she faces and will face here in the Empire?

These are not new thoughts, and this will not be the last time she thinks them either. But she's never put much stock into them, has always willfully disregarded them. She's always been so sure of her decision.

Perhaps--

Perhaps leaving Reluir and coming to Koben to build a life of her own is nothing more than a fantasy.
