Description Victorian corset.

With 22 Iron bones. 6 flatsteels and 16 9mm spiral steels. The waist size is 58 cm. I made a matching neck corset with a lace trimm and red rose. Maby I should replace the corset lacing with black ribbon, That might look nice!

I hope that you like it.

If you want to make a corset, I suggest you start by buying the Truly victorian pattern and just starts. Corset making takes years of practice.

Making a corset can take from 6-20 hours, depending on the design. But I have been making corsets for quite some time now, so I got faster. My first corset to ages to make.

Incredible. My mom made me something sort of corsetty (that I now cannot find! GRR!) for my costume for a play I was in, but now I'm gonna have her make me an actual corset. Or at least help me make one. ^^

I like it very much, it's very nice.

Your corset is very pretty and must have cost you a lot of money and effort but I wonder where did you get such a beautiful fabric!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BlackvelvetSITC In reply to achemicalreaction [2008-08-06 13:14:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for your comment. Corset making is indeed time consuming work, but it is fun none the less. I bought this fabric in Amsterdam at the fabric market. But if you really want something special try hyena silks in the VS.

I have made myself two underbust corsets but it is hard to buy steel boning (ok, its impossible), busk (also impossible) and a fine fabric in Poland (possible but expensive). I am still trying some new patterns, I modify the old ones I have but I love making them and it is extremely fun for me

You should try and visit Holland some day, we have markets with many cheap (but good) fabrics and other stuff (bones, pretty laces etc.). Or maybe you could get someone to get it for you...
I know that in Finland they sell nice fabrics too, you could try that too. But of course, I don't know whether you travel a lot or not.

Good luck! ^^

I will try e-bay, maybe the transport will not cost me fortune I've been to Holland years ago so thats a good reason to come back soon.

Later: Nothing on e-bay under the name 'weefsel'

We mostly call it 'stofje' (stofjes is the plural). But it's kind of a weird word, I don't think you will find anything with a keyword like that. I'm not really sure whether you'll find anything on Ebay at all.

If you go to Holland, you could try de 'Haagse Markt' in The Hague. There are some others around, too, but I don't know them all . There are also special fabrics markets and stuff.
