Viking Mud Skirmish 2019

Stage 3 - Obstacle 6 - Free Fall

Hope your Drakehest isn't afraid of heights, if so, say your prayers if you have them and leap off the ledge into the pit of water, drilled deep enough for the safety of you and your mount.

The Medical tent is strategically placed nearby in the event things don't go according to plan...

Featuring:
Farah & Syn
Aenor & Haegindi

The exit of the maze close, one or two turns away. “Not much left now… come on! We’re almost done!” Aenor’s words were cheerful, encouraging as she urged her mare onwards. The path, narrow at times that they could only squeeze through one after another, widened and led them towards the open sky in a not too steep ascent. Haegi picked up the pace, knowing fairly well what lay beyond the open sky. Soon the path would end and they would jump into a body of water, again. She didn’t mind, but she could imagine Synne wouldn’t be a fan of it and thinking about the face the mare would make was causing her to grin. Aenor on the other hand concentrated for once on the jump ahead, excitement rushing through her blood. Even though they were taking the course slow, she enjoyed every bit of it.

Farah gulped slightly as she saw the end of the maze. She knew which obstacle would come next, knew what awaited them. And surprisingly, Synne didn’t hesitate though she knew as well what was to come. No, Synne was busy keeping up with Haegi, racing her to the top of the hill. What Farah didn’t know: this was something Gunr had done with her before, out in the wilderness, when they were exploring. Back then, Gunr had run ahead, teasing her to follow him. She had hit the brakes as soon as he leaped of the edge, graceful and grinning back at her. This time, she wouldn’t break, this time, she would show him what grace really meant, even though he was far ahead and wouldn’t be able to see her.

One last glimpse towards Farah and Synne and Aenor tightened the grip on both the rains and the mane of Haegi. The mare had taken off, jumping the ledge and into the pool below. She was bracing for the impact of the cool water and greeted it once it came. It was a most welcomed refreshment thanks to the burning summer sun. When they surfaced again, Haegi swam to the bank of the pool and shook off the excess water without losing her rider. Turning her head towards the ledge, Aenor and she watched Synne come to the shore, her mane and tail hanging down thanks to the water. Once they were out of the water, Farah petted her neck and grinned. “You did good… did you see her jump?” Aenor shook her head slightly and smiled. “No, but I can imagine she pulled off one of her deer-like jumps?” Farah nodded energetically and grinned. “Well, maybe she’s finally feeling the spirit of the mudskirmish?” Synne just snorted and shook her head. The most dreaded obstacles were yet to come. Both the mud mountain and the log pull were definitely no favorite of hers but they were the only things keeping them from the finish line now. And Synne was determined to finish this, if not for herself, than at least for her human companion.

It seems only fitting for a peafawn to pull off a deer-like jump
