This took way longer than I wanted it to...but I kept wanting to do some tweaking to it so it was as accurate to what I want BlackDragon (BDS) to be as possible. As you can see, the style is different with the organization of the parts. That's because I wanted to try something more organized so I followed what I've seen some other artists do on my iPad, then added the text using my laptop. I'm going to try to remake other reference sheets of my characters with this style, including Megara my black, red, and gold dragon. She's in serious need of a new reference sheet since I'm doing some slight tweaking to her design (very slight) to fit how I want her to look now as only an OC.

Back to this reference sheet though, most of the important stuff is on the sheet itself. This is to help people to get all of the details right on the body if they drew her for whatever reason (trades, fanart, commissions, etc.). But there were certain details and points I couldn't fit that I will explain below:

Head: I couldn't actually say it in the reference sheet itself, but this is very important for those drawing BlackDragon in the future. The head is NOT a skull anymore. Those are scales or thinner fur (debating on which right now), and the nosehole is actually a black marking. There are actual reptilian nostrils at the bottom of the triangle shape. Let me explain why. The reason for it is I want to make BDS feel as realistic as possible. Despite the neon scales (which probably won't actually glow independently from certain lighting) under the fur, I want BlackDragon to look as though she could exist in our world. To look past my cartoony style of doing things and see this creature as though it could actually be possible to envision it right in front of you. Reason being it is supposed to be me. My artist avatar. And I am a real person.

This isn't to say I actually think this is what I am. I'm well aware I am human. But dragons are a huge part of my life, my art, and my heritage, and I just love the idea of trying to be more realistic with my fursona's appearance. And an exposed skeletal skull for a head is not realistic.

Speech: This is probably the biggest one. As you probably read, BlackDragon/BDS doesn't speak in human tongue anymore. There still isn't a set story of course...so that's all up in the air how this effects story-telling elements and roleplays (I will be flexible with speech there, depending on the story we're doing). But in general, as a dragon, as BlackDragon, I don't speak like a human does. BlackDragon speaks using roars, growls, hisses, and other animalistic noises that are a mix of my favorite animals. For the best comparison of her roars and growls, listen to Trico in "The Last Guardian" when he's angry.

Eyes: The eyes are actual eyes now. The black around them are markings too, which separate the blue markings from the eyes themselves. She looks like she has white pupils, but in reality her eyes have highly reflective properties much like a cat or dog. Giving the appearance of having white pupils. If you look really closely though, the pupils are actually black. (I will try to figure out a logical reason for them actually looking black when angry as well...if there isn't one, I'll probably remove that feature.)

Markings Changing Color: I said in the sheet that the markings change color by mood. Well, it's a similar to an octopus or a chameleon. So it isn't magic.

Tail Bracelet: The collar is optional, being a 'for fun' thing that doesn't have to be drawn every time. The tail bracelet is not optional. There isn't anything sentimental about it, but I always wear my hair in a ponytail. I only ever take the current holder out when I'm in the shower or going to bed (except in summer). So it's just a little reference to that habit of mine.

Paws: I tried to show this on the sheet itself, but the paws are more like hands. Just with paw pads and retractable claws because BlackDragon's features are very much based on a cat and a dog combine. Plus I don't have fully grown nails on my fingers...so there's that.

Teeth: You'll notice BlackDragon's teeth aren't white. That's on purpose. Not only does it clash with her head's color, but my teeth aren't exactly white either... It's from past laziness as a kid and not brushing regularly, but also drinking so much coffee which stains. That doesn't mean my teeth aren't healthy now (last time I went to the dentist there were no cavities, that's an accomplishment for me), but the slight yellow tinge remains. She also doesn't have any teeth past the flaps of skin at the corner of her mouth past her molars (which mark that she is an omnivore). The reason for this being she doesn't have her wisdom teeth, since they were removed to avoid future pain. Her mouth being too small to comfortably have them anymore.

Q: Does your sona still have a human form?

A: Yes and no. The human form is optional depending on the story or situation. It still officially exists, but it's iffy if it's connected to the dragon form or not depending on history and origin. Since originally BlackDragon was the result of a fictional-science plot device. Being made to be a weapon for their cause, but escaping. That's still probably going to be the official story, but it can be tweaked or changed depending on where I put her in a certain story or roleplay.

So the human form is dependant on the story really. But I will still draw myself as my human self as well as dragon.

Q: Does her relationship with her friends change? Does she not know them like you do?

A: Not on my end, no. Nothing changes. She still feels the same for her friends as she did before. She's still me, just written more animal-like than before but still with human intelligence.

Q: Does this change effect shipping?

A: Again, yes and no...but this is a bit more iffy. As I've established, I am officially single. I am not dating, I am not engaged or married. The closest I've come is with fictional crushes, and those are purely self-indulgent fun. Nothing serious. Asking about sex is another thing entirely... I said before that Azure (I think that's just going to be his official name), my most recent male dragon, was her placeholder mate in shipping art where I don't want to draw my current crush. That still stands in some ways...but I'm not a very sexual person in general. I get moods...but they fade within the week. This is just a really...iffy situation though. But in general, BlackDragon doesn't do casual sex. She doesn't speak human tongues, so...how would she? Why would she? Who knows. Moving on.

Q: Does she like to be pet?

A: In dragon form, yes. Human form, not really. Why would you pet a human...? *shot* But yes, as a dragon petting is very much welcome. She feels less vulnerable and more confident in this form, and loves to be pet in certain places. You could pet her into submission if you so desired.

Q: Is vore still a thing?

A: Yep. Like I said, still intelligent, just don't talk. She will still vore any willing (and sometimes unwilling) prey safely.

Q: What are her animalistic behaviors?

A: A mix of dog and cat behaviors really. Lazy like a cat when she wants to be, but loyal like a dog. Likes to play doing a mix. Playing fetch or chasing laser lights or even play fighting. She tries to avoid actual combat, being somewhat weak on the defensive front (which is true to real life too. I bruise and mark easily, though not overly so.) Her fur is her only real defense, and it isn't much use against other large animals and spears or bullets...

When upset or agitated, her fur will puff up a bit (especially at the tail) and she will hiss rather cat-like with a reptilian note to it. Jumping backward with her back arched and ears back. Fangs bared. Get too close with the offending object or if you're the cause, she'll swat at you with her paw.

Q: Do you still change size?

A: Not officially. Only in art and non-story driven roleplaying and/or stories where magic and spells exist. The size on the chart is BlackDragon's official size compared to a 6 ft tall human being.

Q: If she doesn't communicate with words, how does she communicate?

A: Body language is one way. But a trickier one is by writing with her tail or talon depending on the surface she's writing on. This is done rarely, but if she really wants to get something across, she will do so. For example: An announcement of some kind. Like commissions being opened. (Fair warning, the writing is sloppy due to being done with her tail. It's harder than it looks.)
