Project 365-38: March 9, 2009A few weeks ago I bought a pair of point shoes at the Thrift store. Believe it or not I actually used to do ballet. It was my dream to get a pair of point shoes, but I never made it. I admire ballerinas that can dance in these shoes...if I were a ballerina....

these shoes are kind of baffling to me, do they have like steel toes that enables them? it seems painful either way.

They're silk and glue layered and pressed, basically. A lot of dancers use some kind of wool or gel like inserts in them, but in my personal opinion it's not horribly necessary. Not just anyone can be a pointe dancer, no matter how hard they try. You kind of have to be born with the right kind of feet.

No, not steel, very hard padded cloth, it's called a box, and it hurts like hell. I can't even make my toes point fully or they cramp up.

weird, you'd think they would pad it or something so that it wouldnt hurt... its not like they are a new invention. there's been some time to improve upon them. lol

yeah I mean they're padded to an extent but they still need to be hard in order to get on the toes and stay. That's why ballerina's have such jacked up feet.

yeah, you'd think they would have solved that problem by now, maybe their feet wouldn't get so jacked up if someone invented a better shoe.

My mom had -point toe, as you call them- ballet shoes when she was my age. These shoes remind me of her pictures

yeah, it's two bare bulbs, and since the floor is wood and the shoes are satin they make a nice contrast for it.
