Description ...

As I was exploring the shore before the sunset I marked this spot in my mind for a sunset picture. I went on my way to find other things to capture and I let the time slip too much. So I had to run all the way back on the slippery rocks, ice and the sea weed to make this capture before the light went away.

Post pro: Tweaked with curves in PS.

Edit: Submitted a less spectacular version, but it is in a much higher quality (color temperature "fixed", contrast and saturation "dirtyness" "sorted"). This time I did 90% of the post pro through RAW tools (native tweaking inside original parameters) rather than in Photoshop.

Stunning composition. Excellent contrast between the warmth of the sunset and the coldness of the ice.

Again, I love the soft tones in the sky, and their even softer reflections on the wet sand among the rock. The shapes in the landscape are great.

This is very great! I like the texture of the water, it almost looks frozen.
First the dark ground and when you look further you see the warm colored clouds melting away..

It's actually ice what you seen in the foreground there The ice was mixed with a little of air, and I guess that's why it was more white than clear.

Thank you

It's not water per say; It's ice

Thank you

my mistake sorry...
Did you use a filter to avoid reflection on the ice ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

bkm In reply to rikausse [2005-03-02 09:50:27 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, what I meant is that the ice was a white dim frosted pane type of ice, so it didn't reflect the scene much anyway.

Yes indeed I used a filter; A circular polarizer filter. But it didn't do much of a job in this scene really, mostly a subtle difference.

very nice. The colors are amazing. Its interesting how most of the interest is in the middle of the frame, and yet there is the single rock in the foreground that gives it interest and draws your eye. Wonderfully done

Wodewose [2005-02-26 13:57:59 +0000 UTC]

Good grief. Most of your pics are hyper-real - this one doesn't look real at all, at least the sky doesn't. How MUCH did you tweak those curves? I'd like to see the same image undoctored. Fantastic shot, though, obviously.

The first image is the RAW file with 40+ saturation
The second image is with curve tweaking added

In hindsight I made the mistake by adding saturation before I did the curves, something that made the red colors on the clouds about 30% more intense than I had planned to.

Wodewose In reply to bkm [2005-02-26 16:40:07 +0000 UTC]

That is extremely interesting, Bjorn - thank you.
As I suspected, I think I probably prefer the version before you went to work on the curves - certainly in the sky area; the foreground reflections are undoubtedly enhanced in the final version. The heightened saturation appears to be a highly effective feature of most of your work. Comparison with the work-in-progress shows how effective your final cropping is too.
