Description MotR 23/27 "SEA GRIFFIN"*

The GRF-1SG "SEA" Griffin is a one of a kind rebuild from a GRF-1DS Model, after the Jihad.

Viscount Bishop Steiner, retired to Hsien after the Clan Invasion, to head up the Zhi Chiang Constabulary, only to be recalled to serve on the Coventry Expeditionary Force, then Operation Bulldog. Retiring back to his police force, riding out the FedCom Civil War, only for the Jihad to erupt over the Inner Sphere with Word of Blake forces finally pushing him and his forced from Hsien.

Initially presumed dead after the wreckage of his beloved Urbanmech, the "Deputy Dawg" was recovered after the evacuation, he would return with Devlin Stone's Coalition, in the Summoner he had been gifted on Coventry. Afterwards, deciding he wanted to retire for real this time, he commissioned a custom rebuild on a 1DS Chassis found collecting dust in storage at the Defiance Factories on Hesperus II.

Being an avid diver (scuba and free) and fisherman, Steiner decided he was going to take his mech, Dropship and Jumpship, and go explore some oceans around the Inner Sphere and Periphery.  And he would do it in style.

Stripping it of all it's base weapons and jump jets, the first thing he had done was restringing all of it's Myomers with Industrial TSM. Not meant for frontline combat, the Catalyst Gas seemed an unlikely issue, especially as he planned to use the mech mostly UNDER the sea anyhow.  But the added power could come in handy in any number of situations.

Likewise the jump jets would be replaced with 5 underwater mobility units, allowing for easy undersea traverse. The entire head assembly would be rebuilt with an oversized reinforced greenhouse, making for a much roomier space, with a doubled airlock in the back of the head, and enough space to suit up inside the cockpit.  It would be built with a Full Head Ejection System combined with an Mechwarrior Underwater Survival System. If ejection is needed the entire assembly blasts free of the chassis, and deploys large folation bladders, repidly bringing the whole assembly to the surface. The problem is this is at the expense of traditional ejection rockets, meaning there is no means of ejection on the surface.

The armor was largely left stock but all the actuators would be sealed and reinforced to better protect them at depth. and massive underwater searchlights were mounted atop the head, in the side torsos and the knee guards.

For armament, an experimental Thunderbolt 15 Torpedo Launcher was attached ina jettison capable mount on the left arm.  In theory the Launcher could fire either torpedos or missiles, but issues with the feed system, especially attempting to make a working switch feed, led to external mounted 4 shot magazines. To load the 2nd set of 4 rds, requires the current magazine to be ejected, and the spare magazine to be manually inserted, a process that can take anywhere from 10-30 seconds, depending on circumstances, to accomplish. One advantage of the external magazines is they act much like a CASE system with all explosive forces outside the armor of the chassis. The minimum arming range of the Tunderbolts is also a prtection to the pilot, as too close a detonation would act like depth charges.

Supplementing that are a pair of wrist mounted lasers in the right arm, one ER Medium Laser, and a Small Pulse Laser.  Both have been set to cutting frequencies, but can be returned to combat settings at the flip of a switch. concealed under the forearm plate is a retractable blade.

In the right torso a Bloodbound Active Probe has been tuned to underwater use, and in the opposite rear torso, is a Remote Sensor Dispensor, set to drop Sonar Bouys or other undersea survey units. And in both forearms, a set of concealed fine manipulaters was added.

So far Steiner has been enjoying his vacation, catching a number of record fish on several worlds, aiding in several undersea geological surveys and capturing or killing several pirates.

If the postive quirk list seems extensive, such is the privilge of wealth, time and a non combat role.  Also ubiquitous chassis like this had most of the bugs iterated out centuries ago.

Quirks:
-Battlefists
-Jettison-Capable Weapon (Tbolt15)
-Rugged (1)
-Ubiquitous
-Improved Life Support
-Searchlights
-Fine Manipulators
-Protected actuators.

-No Ejection System (only has an underwater ejection system)
-Exposed weapon linkage
-Non-standard parts
-Illegal Design (the Tbolt15 torpedo system is not tournament legal)
-Static Ammo Feed (not a perfect fit, but represents the magazine issues for the TBolt Launcer).

Originally started as a Griffin/Roundfacer based Dive Armor, as it's literally proportioned around fitting a person, with waldo style extensions to the forearms and lower legs, hence the original reason for the oversize head/helmet, but the more I drew, the less I was into that concept, and so here we are.

*Added a second more proportional version, but by the time I'd noticed, there was no way I wanted to muss with the whole background again.  Some bits are easy to edit digitally, but since the origial piece is ink on paper, that's a seperate kettle of fish.
