Description Before going to the London Easter devmeet, I decided to pop along to the London City Hall. I tried to avoid the most tempting and unoriginal shots, and as a result, I found this composition, with all the reflections in the glass providing a multitude of staircases

Shot on 10D, techincal as per EXIF

I really dig this. It looks fresh as hell. The reflections look extremely good and add to the whole curve of the composition. Nice architectural photography.

Yeah, I've decided to start taking them off now. I figured, they're only like 700x500 or whatever, no-one's gonna do anything tooo bad with them. It's a risk, but worth it for showing off the picture. All I need is like 4 spare hours to do it now...

rapidvision In reply to bigdavec [2005-08-14 21:49:01 +0000 UTC]

Heh. I was thinking about watermarking mine, but there's like nobody that sees my pictures, and yeah, a 600x900 image will just give someone a junky 5x7.

I really like this shot. I'm glad you resubmitted it, as I'm not sure I would have found it otherwise. Lamer, I know.

Either way, it's a really kickass shot. Though I'm not usually one for toning, the tones in this work really really well.. and I really like the multitude of lines, and lines crossing lines.

Very good work!

To be honest I like "Lead the Way" better. That might of course have to with the fact that after having lived most of my life in big cities, I have grown tired of them and modern architecture, and have recently developed a new found respect for nature.

The composition is definitely different and daring, I give you credit for that. I like the tones, but are those natural or a result of post-processing? Its fine either way, its just that I am the curious type.

I do have one suggestion about the composition. The small 'empty bit' in the top right hand corner feels out of place to me. I know you might have included it in order not to loose that curved bit, but I still think this shot would look better with that cropped out. Just a suggestion.

bigdavec In reply to lewcid [2005-04-22 20:31:00 +0000 UTC]

I didn't post process this at all, I put an 81B in front of the lens as I remember, but I was adamant not to post-process on this.

So far my use of filters has been limited to polarizers, ND's and red filters..... Ive always been curious as to what filter to use for that kind of tone, so thanks!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bigdavec In reply to lewcid [2005-04-22 20:38:10 +0000 UTC]

yeah, get some simple inexpesnive Cokin filters to experiment, 81C generally looks overly false, and 81A is a bit too subtle. You can pretty much rely on 81B most of the time

Not a bad idea, thanks! Right now Im anxiously waiting to take a few shots with my recently acquired ND filters.... I have a few interesting concepts in mind.

I love the fun-ness in architecture. It's amazingly beautiful at times and others incredibly boring. You've made this piece scream LOOK AT ME!.. I'm DIFFERENT and exciting.. I'm meant to be looked at.. Great job. You still continue to amaze me since the first day I took a look at your images.

I really like the metallic tones in this, emphasising the clinical aspect of the lines, but also accentuating the curves. Lovely composition with one curve enveloping another, guiding the eye beautifully. The glass offers an alternative texture, but kill keeping a lightness within the frame.
