They did flood the fields they could, but that was slow their enemy down, not kill them. D-Day hit the Nazis as a complete surprise. And since airborne was in first, the Germans didn't have time to react effectively for some time. 

The invasion of Normandy was not a "botched mission". In fact, it was the most planned and impressive invasion in human history. Many things went wrong, but because they had been planning it for years, there was plenty of redundancy built in. Not to mention to amazing improvisation of the Allied soldiers in the field.

Yes, I know how the invasion of Normandy played out, I was just wondering if this was another event that the Germans were responsible for.
