The sun was slowly moving behind the horizon, covering Wynsiph in darkness. The shadows were long and sound of wind rustling grass and leaves could be heard as if the breeze was whispering prayers for the fallen Wyngrew taken my the plague. Remaining flowers were danding to the wind, unknowing of the sadness. Crickets and other bugs were singing in the distance, Loomees flying around and lighting the way for all lost Wyngrew. The air was fresh and suprisingly it didn't smell like rotting corpses. Wynsiph was filled by a calm yet sad atmosphere, Wyngrew were recovering from injures and mourning over their dead friends and relatives.
Yet, all these things didn't stop a quiet, gray Wyngling from being happy, unaware of the tragedy that fell upon the town. The young Wyngro was sitting on a bed next to a huge window in which she saw the sun and nature. The window was slightly open so she wouldn't get in trouble. The scent of fresh air filled her nostrils as she breathed calmly and looked down at a journal she was holding. A faint sound of Wynglings playing with each other could be heard in the distance. She thought for a second and continued writing in her diary.
''Mom,
A lot of things happened today! A few Wynglings I know started coughing and Alma quickly separated them from the rest of us. I wonder why? Coughing isn't a very serious problem. Though some of them had their paws and claws covered in a black goo. I hope that's not serious.''
She stopped writing again to turn her head to an empty bunk bed at the corner of the room. The bed at the bottom once belonged to her, only now to be occupied by another Wyngling. The one at the top belonged to her friend, Kai. Kai was an extroverted, orange wyngling with pretty blue eyes and his fur was covered in light clovers. He was quite older than her and left the nook just after they became close friends. After that they stopped hanging out or writing letters to each other. But she wasn't sad - they just drifted apart.
She jumped when she heard knocking on the window. She turned her head and saw a brown quad with light blue eyes - just like her. ''Mom!'' she yelled and opened the window, not caring if Alma would spot her. The quad smiled and a moment later frowned. ''Akira, we need to go'' She finally said. ''Why?'' Asked the brown Wyngling, Akira. Before her mother could reply she coughed. ''Mommy, are you sick?'' Asked concerned Akira. Is mommy sick? She can't be! Mommy is strong and never is ill! Anna shook her head and replied ''No, dear. I'm not ill. But we need to go to our home - I feel like something is wrong'' And so, Aki poked her head out of the window, then she slowly and carefully came out and jumped into her mother's arms. She giggled as grass under her paws tickled her.
They slowly walked, leaving the Nook behind them. Akira talked about her new friends and what happened at the Nook - the weird black goop some Wynglings coughed and the fact that no one was allowed to leave the Nook. But that didn't matter - she was going to spend some time with her mom in their own house in the woods. Her mom told Aki that she has built the little house herself! Anna was so strong! Akira started talking about the things they'll do when they arrive - they'll play together and make flowercrowns [ because a nice Wyngling has taught her how to make them! ] and make a campfire and do other fun things! She was so excited she didn't even notice that when they were approaching the woods and that it started to rain. Her paws started to feel weird. They were... wet and sticky. The grass was wet as the rain
The sun was setting down. Anna promised her daughter that she'll make a campfire first and then they'll eat some marshmallows. Akira never ate marshmallows! She bounced around. They walked for a bit more and Akira's chest started to feel strange. It hurt and she started feeling cold. Her throat burned and she coughed, covering her mouth with her claw. She looked down at her claw and saw that it was covered in black goo. Black goo. Just like the sick Wynglings that disappeared from the Nook after Alma found out they're ill. Oh no. Was she going to disappear, too? Her thoughts raced, but she shook her head - her mommy was there, she was going to be okay! Anna looked at her daughter, her eyes full of pain and fear. ''Dear, are you alright?'' She asked. Akira nodded to stop her mother from worrying, but she wasn't sure about that. Is she really okay?
Her mother announced that their home is not that far away. She was feeling even worse - she was shaking, her paws were sticky, the rain was blocking her vision and everything was cold. She was tired. And on top of that tears [ were they really tears? They were dark and sticky, just like her paws... ] were running down on her cheeks. ''M-Mom...'' - she cried before she collapsing on the ground. Her mother quickly turned her head towards her and cried. She kept repeating questions like 'Are you okay?' 'Aki, dear, look at me' and 'don't close your eyes, please...'. Akira was sad. She made her mommy cry and worry over her. But she was fine, right? She won't disappear when mommy's here. Her breathing was uneven and her chest burned. But she looked at her mother's worried eyes and said ''Mommy, I'm sleepy...'' and after a moment she quietly added ''...Can you tell me a story? Please?''
She listened to her mom's story about a mother and a daughter living in a tiny house in the woods with a runeboo, having campfires, eating marshmallows and making flowercrowns until she closed her eyes and exhaled for the last time as her body went still.
She couldn't hear her mother's pained scream that echoed through the forest.
