This is a self portrait I'm submitting to the 'Myself' contest held by #pencil-box . This is done entirely with a 2B graphic pencil. Layered in photoshop.

As my deviant name suggests, I have a thing for birds The themes of flying, skies, clouds and the freedom those elements symbolise have always been prevalent in my dreams. It's hard to explain, but I know the themes of birds/flying will always exist in my life, as a metaphor for personal, intellectual, artistic freedom. I may not be able to soar through the skies in reality, but I always am in my mind

As a side note, the stylised clouds here have another layer to them. They remind me of maps, the way I've drawn them, which is another theme in my life at present. I've recently traveled from Australia to America and Europe, which was an incredibly important experience for me. Since returning, I've developed a fascination with globes and old maps. I guess I inadvertently made reference to that

An even more personal element of this portrait is that when I took the reference photo I was longing for my lovely boyfriend, on the other side of the world to me. I think you can see a touch of that in my face
