Been trying to figure out what I liked about this, and I think I pinned it down to --

Halock's the centre of the picture, but she doesn't own it. Everybody has their moments worth highlighting, but this one wasn't Kithoras'. And the others here are way too characterful not to be part of it. Which is like the scene was. It's impressively captured through the focus and flow.

The drinks help with it too. It's a great detail to remember, but draws attention to everybody.

You remembered that painstaking removal of the gauntlets! I like that. I can get so wrapped up in little details. I love this incarnation of one of those moments.

Expressions are great. Nicolette and Eisolde feel really good -- perfect in their own, opposite, corners, somehow. Their gazes seem to redirect you back in? Niccoli's toast is funny and really makes the picture feel like a satisfying finale, but doesn't stand out at all.

I wasn't certain about Alvarro or Kithoras' faces somehow. Couldn't put my finger on why. Alvarro came first -- I felt his expression wasn't as emotive as the others but I realised that's because he's plastered. He's in a world of his own, I think? Which made me laugh, and is touching.

I realised the thing which felt off to me about Kithoras was the fact that she's really not very pretty. The lines and shape of her face, the scarring which really does mess things up, the stern, distant expression which fails to ennoble her -- perfectly correct, of course and really quite nice once I'd realised that was what I was seeing, but it jarred until I slotted it into place because you don't pick up anything like that from the ingame models.

It's part of your style, I think -- the elements of realism, often particularly around the face, slotted into Warcraft's style. What impresses me here is how much it caught me off guard. It really feels very fluid.

So I've had this in my notifications for six months, which - well, you told me not to worry about late replies; still, it merits an apology, and oddly enough it also serves to show me how quickly time flies. I could have sworn it was a couple of months at most; a couple of months only of the explanation-answer-detail-picture for this resting on my otherwise pristine-clean desktop.

I can't explain how glad I am that the Halock-in-centre-but-not intent is read as intended. This was an amazing roleplaying moment for me, likely for the others as well; enough to make this one of my favourite pictures, not for the art but for the RP feeling it reminds me of. Halock's slow, almost ceremonial, almost avoid-y removal of the gauntlets was -the- moment, for me; as if it painted everything she felt that moment, in your trademark beautiful subtlety.

The reason this reply took so long was that I got lazy with uploading the closeup necessary to understand Alvarro's expression (or at least so I hope). If you recall, it was him who pushed Halock to shift to her human form; drunk, relieved, post-traumatic, but fully empathetic and courageous as he is, throwing all his I-don't-open-up-but-you-can-do-the-impossible at Halock. If you look at the closeup, he is looking -directly- at her; pleased, even admiring. Or so was my intent, at any case.

scene sac stranglethorn the parting glass DETAIL  - in case the embedded picture isn't large enough.

And last - thank you for the compliment in the last paragraph; it's a compliment for me, at least, and much appreciated.

I SEE THAT NOW. And I like it. She was always fond of Alvarro in a particular way. Did that ever show? If it hadn't been him that asked at that moment she probably wouldn't have done it -- not that she liked him best, because the other three all have strong holds on her. But she could've snubbed them.

I still say he's drunk too though.

Also the scars on her face come up so much nicer with more detail.

And as to time -- I didn't believe it was six months myself at first, I double-checked thinking you were wrong. But then I noticed the picture itself is just over a year old. Ouch.

You're right that he's plastered beyond belief there. I think that since you brought it up I looked at it and liked it much more with that interpretation; he's sweaty (because it's Stranglethorn) but I think the smile and sweat and drink all really combine also to say yes, he's drunk as hell.

It was evident Kithie always liked him - he was the only one who had the guts to push her into her emotions and past to help her gain some more future. And hell, now I really miss roleplaying with you two. With everyone, really; but the Alvarro-Kithie dynamics was beautiful.

See not only do I find it funny he's drunk (because it took me so long to remember/realise that fact) but I think it's another nice detail of the scene. It felt like he released a bit -- hardly fully, but perhaps he was looser than normal.

Also I didn't realise the sweat until you said. That's cool.

And yes, he did that a few times. But perhaps more important than emotions (scary, ugly, things. ew.) was the guts part. It's not often she finds someone she considers anywhere approaching 'equal', but I think he was just persistent enough to start piquing her interest.

It's a pity! The people we had there were great. I've been looking around for RP again recently and it is so. jolly. hard. to find anything that looks like it'd lift my heart.
