Once again, a shot from our GARventure photoshoot on an active volcano. Don't worry, that's not hot lava burning behind Simon. (BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AWESOME IF IT WERE.) We're not quite that crazy ...yet.
This shot was done as the sun was setting, when the sky suddenly exploded with color. After admiring its beauty, we remembered that we should at least try to take a nice photo with it. We actually had a bit of a dilemma because the settings we needed to capture the sunset left Chi as a dark silhouette against it. We didn't have any fancy lighting equipment, so Erving had El catch the flash from his camera to light up Chi. Meanwhile, I was failing as an art director because I kept making Chi laugh with my instructions to "stare hopefully into the distance".

Shoko Nakagawa fans, please don't kill me - I turned Shokotan into MANRY ShOTOKOMAN. I'm sure there are others who've done the same, but here's my take on it. The few people I've sent it to actually like it better than the original, haha.

What the....WHAT THE HECK MAN? Tell me how it is you guys always have this magical atmosphere when you shoot pictures! You couldn't get better BGs/Lighting in a studio! I'm on to you, I will find your secret!
....Moving on. Really, truly a spectacular shot. When I look at it, it really does make me feel hope. The way he's looking off, with that ever so slight smile. He doesn't say it'll be easy, but he still hopes anyway. I couldn't help but notice where the color is most bright, most intense, is right around where his heart would be. Like the brilliant gold folded in the clouds is coming straight from the tiny seed of hope in his chest. Dang, I mean just incredible!
