Description

Kaitos bolted up to the great doors of the Eldar Temple. He grabbed the handles and threw open the doors, his blade flashing as the heat of his anger and panic coursed through him. He darted into the sanctuary terrified of what he was going to find but determined to find it nevertheless. Kaitos gaze darted around the sanctuary until they fell upon a lone figure laying on the floor before the dais.

“Orion!” Kaitos sprinted forward. His sword clattered to the ground as he fell to his knees gathering up the other man into his arms. Ash and embers drifted off Orion’s body. He brushed his fingers through the snow elf’s white hair. He shook the man’s gently.

“Orion. Wake up.” Orion did not stir. Kaitos felt a deep dread begin to well up inside of him. This couldn’t be happening. They had both fought too many foes together. They had escaped too many dangers together. It couldn’t be over because of some damnable test! Eldar be damned! But Orion did not stir. It didn’t even seem like he was breathing.

“Orion. Please. Wake up…” But the snow elf did not stir. Grief welled up inside of Kaitos. He felt a pain so keenly he couldn’t breathe. His shoulders slumped and he pulled Orion’s body closer to his own, burying his face in the base of the man’s neck. His whole body trembled as he felt a weight settle upon him. When he was finally able to speak, his voice shook with sorrow and yearning of a lover left behind.

“Come back. Shal’atan,” My shining heart. “Come back. Don’t leave me here alone.”

“Kaitos…?” Kaitos’ head shot up. His eyes went wide and he stared into Orion’s beloved face. The other elf drew in a shaky breath followed by a rough cough. Relief washed through the dark elf and he crushed Orion to him. He wrapped his arms around his lover’s body and held him tightly. Orion let out an uncomfortable grunt.

“Can’t…breathe…” Kaitos loosened his hold only slightly and he looked into Orion’s cerulean eyes.

“You’re a damned fool, Orion.” That earned him one of the snow elf’s trademark smirks.

“Yeah. But I did it. I passed the test. The sanctuary is pure again.” Kaitos shook his head even as he lifted his beloved up into his arms and cradled him against his chest. He hadn’t taken two steps before three orbs of radiant flame burst into being around him. The ash that had covered Orion was swept up in an ethereal wind and soft embers drifted skyward. Kaitos eyes went wide.

“Soulfire?” He looked at Orion. His lover only smiled and rest his head upon Kaitos shoulder. The dark elf rose to his feet. He glanced at his sword. It was illuminated briefly in flames before vanishing. It would return when needed. He leaned down and pressed a kiss to his lover’s forehead with exquisite tenderness.

“Let’s go home, Shal’atan.” Orion’s only response was to snuggle closer into Kaitos arms. Kaitos managed a soft smile as together they walked out of the Temple of the Eldar. Relief threaded itself throughout the whole of Kaitos being.

For the first time in a long time, Kaitos felt no fear. He felt no despair. As he stared down at the man in his arms, Kaitos felt only love.

And that gave him hope.
