Description I know I've been teasing you guys with Mr. Giggly Hyena's counterpart, and after many hand-cramps and tedious testing, I'm showing you them both together.

Just so you know this is kind of a junkie frankenstien job of fusing the old quicktime mov I used before with the pencil test of the new one, so there are a couple quirks that will be fixed in the final version (like the weird hand thing that happens when they do the paper switchoff). And Ben pointed out that I should probably tell you that the second hyena is going to be sitting on a rock in the final version. That's why he's a touch elevated in comparison to the first hyena. He's also going to be slightly behind the first hyena as well.

Anyways, I hope you like it! Losta' work was put into this project, and I know there's a lot more work to come.

Thanks for waiting, folks. Hope I made the wait worthwhile.

Sound clip is from Sifl and Olly

And the Sorenson compressor was used for this animation, so you'll probably need the latest version of Quicktime to view.

It doesn't seem to fully download anymore ( both hyenas together ) but I remember it pretty well.
I watched it years ago but it's still a favorite. :}

Wow-E!! The animation moves so smoothly! I barely noticed any flaws to be honest.

The voice acting was brilliant as well! I couldn't help but laugh along with the hyenas! XD

Just seeing wonderful animation such as this only can encourage me more to keep practicing and learn to animate as best I can.
So far I've only been introduced to Flash and make half-assed animations. Mostly because my teacher is learning along with us. >_>
I do try looking up tutorials, and a way to hack Flash for myself to use at home *cough*.

I also want to do pencil animations so once I leave High School this year maybe I'll immediately get a taste of that. = )

Hope you don't mind answering questions from me in the near future!

MAN it took me forever to find this. When I DL it the entire other hyena is missing. :-: ARG.

It's amazing how smooth the movements are. Especially, on 16 fps.

basakward In reply to Jackmunch [2009-11-06 15:24:51 +0000 UTC]

Is it playing at 16fps? It should be at 24.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jackmunch In reply to basakward [2009-11-06 19:10:31 +0000 UTC]

Really? Because, I've counted the frames on Quicktime and each drawing was 16 frames.

basakward In reply to Jackmunch [2009-11-07 02:57:02 +0000 UTC]

Ahh. I got mixed up. Yeah, for the most part this was done on twos at 30 fps, so the framerated was typically 15-16.

Hmm... Fascinating. It's funny how animation compression works now a days.

Wow, here it is.

This looks awesome, wow. The movements are have a smooth flow and it's fun to watch.
The laughing part gave me the chuckles. I sometimes just can't help but laughing when people laugh for long enough.

dude i bet you would be awesome if you started doing flash. rlly the movements are better than disneys stuff. im going in to fullbody tho but i kinda suck at it, and im not very patient.

But can i ask you something?
how old are you? and for how long have you been animating?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

basakward In reply to wraz1 [2009-03-02 01:59:56 +0000 UTC]

I'm 27, I've been animating for a long time (started doing those flip-books when I was young), been working for the past 5years.

Holy wow, the movements feel so natural yet they took my breath away. I really like seeing an animation find the happy medium of reality and exaggeration and you nailed it. A very impressive feat for sure.

I saw one comment ask about the laughing. They are hyenas! The random contagious laughter is so perfect.

This thing must've taken a long time! You drew each frame, right? Individually, I mean?

I love it! It reminds me so much of the Lion King. You are too cool, dude.

atlantart [2009-02-06 10:53:08 +0000 UTC]

Wow, this is amazing! The animation is very smooth, if not always perfectly lip-synched, but I think it's awesome how you handle the two guys starting to laugh so much. That was ad-lib, right? It's such a wonderful, natural moment and it's great to see such a thing animated. Good job.

basakward In reply to atlantart [2009-02-07 03:29:04 +0000 UTC]

The soundtrack is from Liam Lynch, I'm not sure how much was adlibbed..
glad you like it though. Thanks for the comments and also for the fav!

Good enough to be a disney movie, its very close to the style of the Lion King, my favorite disney movie of all time, maybe thats the reason I faved this so long ago, after all this time, it's still entertaining to watch.
