To my understanding, it's a series about sharks that runs on the discovery channel once a year.
Of course, people with, or are fans of anthro sharks use that as an excuse to draw them for the week.

So for the Shark Week, it's basically like an event about sharks in anyway? By showing movies and shows, that contain sharks mostly?

As far as I know it's a series of documentaries that run once a year on one specific channel. But people choose to use it as a week to celebrate sharks anyway. it's not really officially recognised by the government I don't think.

From what I've seen on a screencap recently, Shark Week did also show some episodes from a different shows, that have sharks in it. What a shame, they aren't recognized. I would have liked to watch a few documentaries again.
