Description THE JOKER! What a fantastic character to draw. this is the first of many you'll find me submitting of our homicidal friend. It suits what i like to draw. I pick the more graphic novel pictures of the Joker, the pure evil shots, and eing able to do something of that realm and still use such a variety of bright colours! it's fantastic!

Ahhh... the only thing to say is this didn't turn out like it should have! lol the source picture I found on the internet BLEW ME AWAY! it looked so grainy, dark and evil, with such thick, and heavily defined strokes of orange and red around the eyes and nose etc... really one of thos pictures that i don't see very often.
Anyway it's a mixture of Oil pastels and chalk pastels. After scanning it, i did my first EVER bit of work with photoshop, and as I really have no idea how to use the program, I just did a posterised effect.

The effect that it resulted in may seem distorted, and slightly harsh, but it's really added to the gritty look of the drawing I think.

He looks both very evil and very crazy.

God, I absolutely love it. The original art from Arkham Aslyum is some that I adore, but I love the effect you've given this because it's so gritty. It's funny, though, I was just thinking about a certain panel in that comic, where the Joker is talking about the Roscharch inkblot test.

Hi there.

Thank you very much indeed, I'm glad you like it. It was a piece in oil pastels, lots of thick vibrant lines and it was Posterised through photoshop. I love the original art work also- something about that almost makes me want to try and paint it and use mixed media (I.e run cigerette ash through the paint and spackle it over the page a bit

Ah, I seeeeee. It's a very cool effect, it suits the atmosphere really well. That could be a really interesting idea, the cigarette ash in the paint. If you do go through with it, I would love to see the finished art. Judging by this, you will definitely do it justice.

he certainly looks like the ultimate menace to society here. i've long ago lost interest in 'super heroes', but the villians will always hold a fascination for me.
i think batman and spiderman had the best, most deranged villians.....

Yeah, very definately. I like drawing superheros, like nightwing and Batman, but I am definately drawn towards the villains more so. The joker as you can tell is a favourite of mine. Also BANE and I want to do a really freakish drawing of the penguin, a tim burton / batman returns kinda penguin maybe. I'll keep thinking. yeah I like drawin spiderman too, but don't often undertake a drawing, I will always wanna colour it, and I am not always in the mood for colouring things. Venom was pretty damn cooL!

The expression of the face is wonderfully malevolent, creepy, and intense. Nice form and tones.

That's really crazy. I'm always afraid to use that much shadow. I'm kinda afraid to use such heavy strokes too.

he really looks crazy just like joker should.

Nice work.

Maybe I scare you more, but I'm enjoying reading your comments more! Honestly, you're wayyy to kind to me! AHH YES! well, the type of joker I enjoy drawing is the joker generally seen in certain graphic novels. In the cartoons and such he dones't look quite so evil, he can at times, but in some graphic novels, (whatever one the origional of this drawing was from) it's how he looks throughout! I like tapping into the darker grittier, more evil character that the Joker is... I tend to get very into it, i'm a huge Batman fan. Once again THANX!
