Description
She used to sit out on the mountain edge and stare up at the moon, wondering what it would be like to share the sky with it's luminous glory.
With a sigh she decided she had spent enough time dreaming and rose to wonder back down to the rest of the caravan.
As soon as she'd made it over the crest of the mountain she saw the flames. She heard the screams and could feel the panic.
Running down the mountain her chest started to hurt from the thick smoke that replaced the air, but she wouldn't stop. She could hear her baby, she knew he was still trapped in his bed.
She felt several hands grab at her but wouldn't stop, she couldn't.
He's alive. He must still be alive!
The blanket that was used as a door on the cart was long gone, eaten away by the angry flames. The smoke inside was so dense, but she could hear the crying. She KNEW she could hear the crying, even though there was no air left to fuel it.
Her hair and skirts on fire, she grabbed the singed bundle of blankets and ran, only somewhat aware of the burning around her.
She collapsed to the ground, the bundle squirming in her arms.
She closed her eyes then, and would dream of the moon.
