I will understand Trixie's appeal, all I saw was some talentless braggart who had to humiliate others just to look good. Besides Twilight is LEAGUES above her.

Twilight is leagues below her.
With little study Trixie can became Master of Illusions.
Twilight might have more raw magical power, but all that power is nothing, if the mind that controls it becomes broken by a violent barrage of traumatizing thoughts, images and words, slowly peeling away the thin shell of Twilight's confidence, only to reveal the true nature of her being - a fragile cup filled to the edges with a boiling brew of crippling fear of rejection and abandonment, mixed with desperate need for acknowledgement and praise.
"We don't want you here", "We don't need you anymore, egghead", "Look at her, acting all superior with her magic", "I found a new pupil", "We are dissapointed in you, daughter", "You aren't my real family, you never were!" .The cup suddently breaks. Destructive mixture begins to fill every corner of Twilight's psyche, every part is filled with toxic thoughts. Any remaining brick that made up her little shell of confidence is subsequently smashed with a force of a thousand words of hatred and malice pounding her weakened mind, second after second.
Twilight's little fortress is no more, the cup is broken and its' content has melted through every layer of her psyche, right to the very source of her will to live. Trixie won. She broke the element of magic - the most powerful unicorn in Equestria. All that's left is to deliver the finishing blow, but Trixie won't do that. She doesn't need to.

Well, it's just amuse me to write tons of praising for Trixie with frowny Twilight on my avatar. Looks like she unamused)) Yes, I like to mess with her))
Trixie returning in season 2 probably would make my year too. Her voice, her looks, her attitude, I like her more that anypony else (maybe except NMM and Luna).
I like to think she'll be Luna's personal pupil in season 2.

I'm sorry as well, overreacted a bit. I'm just a big fan of Trixie and tired of all Twilight-lovers. I mean, she plenty pampered - student of goddess, Element of Magic herself, she gets plenty of money from Canterlot and lives in luxiry. Trixie made herself.

Yeah, Trixie has a lot of potential if she applied herself, though I get the impression that she just wants to be fawned over and revered (I haven't watched Boast Busters yet, just going on from what I've gathered all over the fanbase). If she reappears in Season 2, I can see her having significantly improved her illusions in order to try to best Twilight.

The question would be, could Trixie's illusions break Twilight down enough before her friends can save her. And if Twilight breaks, would it be the whimpering, sad little thing. Or a roaring rampage of destruction. Only way to find out is if the show actually covers it sadly. But hey, we can always make guesses.

sodomitor In reply to Drasvin [2011-06-22 07:50:30 +0000 UTC]
Well, in Swarm of the Century she was kinda defeated and lost her mind.
I think Trixie will break them one by one. Turn Pinkie to Pinkamena, make Dash insecure and scared, make Fluttershy insane and angry, scare the hell out of Applejack (remember her in Bridle Gossip?) and etc.
And when she has no friends, and no-one to help her she will slowly break her.

Drasvin In reply to sodomitor [2011-06-22 07:59:04 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. I can see that. Though since the mane 6 are the heroes of the story, and Trixie would be the villain, something would happen to save everyone at the last moment. Possibly have Trixie miss one of the mane 6, most likely Pinkie Pie as she would be the hardest to break via illusions, and then the one person Trixie missed returns from wherever they were and saves the day. Or could have the whole town realize what Trixie is doing and become an angry mob. Illusions to break people becomes harder when you have to break more at the same time.

I think it'll be MUCH more interesting if seeing Twilight crying and defeated Trixie will suddenly realize that it's not satisfying. That she only wanted acknowlengement (like Luna) and that she done something horrible. Releasing Twilight from illusions, Trixie tries to comfort her and help her. "I'm sorry" - helplessly whisper Trixie, - "I just... just wanted to prove myself, to make you understand that I am as powerful as you, and impress everypony..."

Drasvin In reply to sodomitor [2011-06-22 08:35:37 +0000 UTC]
Maybe. Would certainly make for a decent Aesop/moral/friendship lesson. The trick would be to do it without traumatizing/scaring the target audience. That and they would have to be careful not to overdo Trixie. She may be a powerful illusionist, but I doubt she has too much power beyond that. Also to truly break the cast like you're suggesting would mean Trixie would have to do a lot of research, put a good amount of effort forward, and be able to do it fast enough that the mane 6 doesn't find out what she is up to and retaliate.
Also now that I think about it, I don't know if you can mentally break Pinkie Pie with illusions. In the first episode she saw through Nightmare Moon's illusion trees easily. And her Pinkie Sense might be able to tip her off that it's just illusions. Would probably be easier to confuse Pinkie, sending her in circles.

if Trixie somehow learned it from NMM\Luna it'll do the trick. Luna was absent all the season, maybe to learn her new pupil?
Agreed about Pinkie Pie)

Drasvin In reply to sodomitor [2011-06-22 09:30:13 +0000 UTC]
Maybe, though NMM was supposedly caused by Luna tapping into a dark power. Maybe Trixie stumbled upon whatever forbidden power Luna had used and decided to try it herself? While I could see Luna taking on a pupil, I think the reason she's absent for the first season is she's catching up with the times (1000 years is plenty of time for lot's of things to change and advance) and building up good PR while getting rid of the bogey-pony image. The only problem with Trixie tapping into the power to defeat Twilight and company, is that it took the Elements of Harmony to purge the influence of said power from Luna.

sodomitor In reply to Drasvin [2011-06-22 10:49:26 +0000 UTC]
Well, Luna was goddess, so Elements was required. With regular unicorn, I think, simple self-doubts of Trixie may work, with little magic help from Celestia or bunch of unicorns.

Drasvin In reply to sodomitor [2011-06-22 23:35:31 +0000 UTC]
I don't think self-doubt on it's own would work. Depends on how the dark power works. It probably would be enough to weaken the magic so that somepony else could purge the power from Trixie

sodomitor In reply to Drasvin [2011-06-23 04:48:55 +0000 UTC]
Yes, that's what I said. Self-doubts + magic purge. And then Trixie will be imprisoned or banished, I think. ^_^

I understand if you think of it that way. I wasn't trying to be an obsessed Twilight fan (although she is my favorite pony), I was just really frustrated with all the claims of Trixie being something big when she isn't (yet, it could change in the future) so if you feel that I was too cynical with my choice of words I apologize again.
