Description

This mask is hand made and cast in a sturdy polyurethane resin. The fully adjustable straps are made from real leather and brass plated fittings.
The mask has been painted with a mixture of airbrushing and hand painting, finished with an aged effect and coated in two layers of varnish, one gloss for strength and a final matt coat.
For comfort there is a felt pad at each inner temple area.

I like it but not sure it would fit over on ma met though most of resin can be altered bit with a heat gun. Dimension?

No I don't think it would, they sit pretty close to the Jaw and temple and they come up to the top of the ear, the smallest gap at the temple area is approx. 12.5 cm.  I presume a Met is a bike helmet right?

I've made them really thick too, I tried bending one after heating it in almost boiling water and they are an absolute bastard to bend, just managed to reshape it a little.  I guess you might get a bit more from a heat gun, I'll have to get hold of one and give it a try at some point, would be interesting to know to what extent you can alter them.

So how wide is it at where straps are attached?  It can go inside of 3/4 met, I guess.

I am telling you I have a big face; bigger target when you are in fist fights.

I think boiling water is as hot as you want to go. Heat gun can burn the piece if you are not careful. I often use heat guns to fix resin cast pieces that bent in the process, likes of horns and thin limbs of garage kits. If your piece is real thick, might not work much.

By the way,  I always love your work.

It goes to about 15.5cm (inner measurement) at the back of the part the straps attach to (that little section is about 6cm long)  the outer measurement, at it's widest is approx. 17.5cm.

They probably all vary a bit, when they come straight out of the cast they are a little tight, so that's why I reshaped them a bit, to make this section a bit wider.

I think I could cast this section thinner, which would make it easier to bend, I'm probably making them much thicker than they need to be, but I'm properly paranoid about making these masks too thin, so I let the resin pool in areas that are going to be taking strain.   I still have no idea what I'm doing half the time, but experimenting is always fun and a good way to learn.

And thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate them as always   the same goes for your work of course.  I'm really pleased to see your company is properly up and running, I'm sure you'll be very successful, those sculpts are perfect.

Hahaha. 15.5cm would squish my face bit. Darn Asian round skull...

I know what you mean by making them sturdy. I am always paranoia about stuff being broken during the  shipping so tend to make stuff thicker or having a shipping box way bigger.

I think you are doing great job on those. I just wish you sculpt more kitties, though.

Hey appreciate the compliment. It took long time to launch the company. I even had to convince a young lady, who has a lot of knowledge on those BJD, to go into da biz with me.  I wish I can just sculpt kitties. Not those creepy heads. Oh well. ..

Keep your eyes peeled, another kitty is imminent! in fact I have two new ones planned, I just need to get some time to do some sculpting.

Well like you said you might be able to sneak a kitty head in there sometime, personally I think that would go down really well, who wouldn't want a cat head for their BJD? I think people would buy a doll just so they could put a cat head on there......I might be a little obsessed with cats though.....

Okay! I will keep ma eyes peeled!

I actually was sculpting cat BJD, then ran out of the steam.  I wanted to make my own version.  There are a few nice cat BJD already around.
This one from Russia. Pretty anatomically correct Sphinx cat. oleum.pro/#molds/cat_sphinx.ht…

This one is from Japan. A personal piece by a Japanese BJD artist.

And there are some cat BJD heads They are bit stylized in typical anime style.

I might sculpt my own cat head one of these day but it will not go into a production, I bet.

I am obsessed with cats, too. They are awesome and often they are the only reason I don't stupid stuff anymore like I used to when I was young.

They're great, the one from Japan is lovely.

Well it would be a real shame to waste those cat sculpting skills of yours, I think you should still make it.

Yeah I like the one from Japan better as well. Even though it is more limited in articulation than the Sphinx one, it has the cute fluffy looks to it.

I will try one of these days. I have to sculpt boring stuff for now....
