It utilizes the highest technology avalible to the Central Coalition, including the baned R.A.C. engine and the stolen I-Tek Gundanium Formula 9. The Gundam is essentialy two weapon systems in one so if the unstable R.A.C. engine is ruptured it, most of the weapons, and the gunner can be ejected creating the lighter armed but still formitable "Soulus Gundam."

Would have expected a gundam with such a 'notorious' name and background to b more 'spiky' or melee-oriented O.O

It was Designed to dominate the battle-field with horrendious firepower. In Seriph mode it's more of a gunboat than a mobile suit. But in Soulus mode it is much more melee-oriented.
