Standing here near the edge of the runway of the former Pferdsfeld Air Base and looking at the approach lights you'd almost expect a plane to line up on final any time!But no, the last F-4s of the Luftwaffe left this place in 1997. The approach lights are in a dodgy state, with some of the lights missing and damaged wiring. Some of the masts closer to the runway have been removed, though I'm not sure why.

Can you get into the airfield? Or has it been converted to some thing else?
I just love the cloudy sky and the rusty patches.

The runway is now used as a test track by General Motors. You can get onto parts of the airfield, mostly stuff like ammunition bunkers and support buildings on the edge of the field. But the runway itself is still off-limits.

They are quite tall? Great scenery thought

The runway is on a hill so the terrain sorta falls away from the runway edge, so they made quite tall masts to compensate.

You see? I got used to my flat-land and I tend to believe that every single airport is located on a straight surface
