ApophysisI can't use my desktop to create new fractals for the time being ( I am on the iPad because my desktop has been hacked) I submit a few pieces from my "stash", which proves to be a very nice dA addition.

Thank you Jean. I still havn't fixed my desktop yet but I have been able to play a little at my daughters and started doing comments on the laptop. That is quicker than on the ipad. Perhaps I can motivate myself to reformat the desktop this week

Oh, reformatting is a long, time-consuming job. Hubby takes all day with the "re-builds", but they always work out fine in the end. I'm sure you'll be able to do it just fine!

It takes me for ever to make sure I have saved everything and then reinstall all the programs and do the settings the way I am used to. Also I am still thinking about how I want to set up the HD. I debate whether to format it into several part or if I just have one drive. So far it never helped me to have several partitions. If something went wrong I still had to format the whole hd or replace it. Also I am pondering whether I should start a completely new filing system with Windows 7x. My old system is somehow outdated.

Computers are very complex machines (remember how the Eniac circa 1950 filled up a huge room and all it could do was math?). It's no surprise that there's a lot of work involved in maintaining them when you consider all the truly amazing things they can do. And on our own desks!

I once saw a Cray computer at the National Center for Atmospheric Research out in Boulder Co., that filled a very large room. It was a series of linked mainframes, actually, but it processed tons of information. Atmospheric science is loaded with variables!
