Description (( A huge thanks to for helping me edit this pain in the butt profile ))

Of all profiles this one I'm incredibly proud of, there are details I never fully clarified, including a synopsis of Aura's origin without spoiling too much of the old story. Any OC's I forgot to add to relationships I'll add.

All Characters belong to their owners.

Physical Appearance

Erick bears some resemblance to his late human mother, Celeste, with a peach skin tone and “expressive” facial structure. However, he has attributes largely from his alien father, Azure the Blaze, mainly his blue hair—which he keeps tied up in a long ponytail every so often—and eye color. Throughout the years, his body would bear a collection of scars, but the most prominent would be the burn scar snaking down his arm from his shoulder he’d received in the aftermath of a car accident he experienced when he was a very young boy; though the wound would eventually turn out to be a “birthmark,” a sign of his alien heritage.

For a hero outfit, he typically wears a yellow flak jacket, black fingerless gloves, dark pants, elbow pads and knee pads; all of these had been personally reinforced by Cyborg for the boy’s protection. Although at the start, when Erick was a rookie hero, he’d wear a tattered leather biker vest given to him by his grandfather, William. Still, apart from most of his friends on the Team, Erick frequently chooses to don civilian attire because—in his own words—such clothes provide him comfort and easy maneuverability.
In combat, his eyes will “blaze” an ethereal light-blue color, and wisps of smoke are visible from the corners. His hair will also become like literal fire, giving off a sort of “halo” when he especially taps into his powers.

As a younger teen, he hadn’t had much muscle to his body, making him thin and rather underweight. His hair was much shorter and he stood just a foot taller than Beast Boy. However, when he grew older—and through a routine of rigorous exercise—Erick would acquire the build of a seasoned warrior.

Personality

Being raised by his single mother and maternal grandfather during the first few years of what could be considered an honestly idyllic childhood, Erick had been a down-to-earth but overall happy youngster. But near-constant bullying from other kids at school for his abnormal appearance would cause him to become pessimistic, almost spiteful and cynical towards other people around him.

His mother’s untimely death in a car accident had only isolated him further, though, as the pain and trauma of losing her often made him reluctant to step outside of his home and leave the Province; venturing only to run errands for his grandfather or some other matters.

This same lack of social skills, combined with his own hardheadedness, would persist even when Erick first joined the Teen Titans; saddling him with training sessions beyond his capabilities. His stubborn nature would also put him at odds with Robin as well, leading to numerous arguments between the two in regards to each other’s personal ideals about being a hero and protecting the citizens of Jump City.

However, being able to have an open mind does have its merits for him. A trait he gained from his mother, Erick is able to almost effortlessly befriend and gain the trust of the most emotionally closed-off individuals; the prime example being that of Gabriel Winchester, a young man with a considerable chip in his shoulder and misanthropic worldview much deeper than his own.

Of course, Erick does have a hair-trigger temper; resulting from the bullying by his peers at school when he was younger, and the crippling depression he underwent after the death of his mother. As a matter of fact, whenever he felt cornered or antagonized by an enemy while on missions with the Titans, he’d lash out and that would often lead him to succumb to his “alien rage” if left unchecked.

But all in all, his time with the Titans has seemed to have softened him quite a bit despite all of the hardships he’d done through, gaining a sense of comradery and loyalty with each of them. Although the deepest bond he has is with Starfire, whom warmed his heart much like his mother once had when she was still alive, by telling him frequently that not everyone is of impure heart and accepting him as the person he is.

Furthermore, the bond the two of them share had has Erick experiencing some romantic feelings for her, driving him to be very protective of the alien princess in times of danger; as well as explain certain things about Earth that not even Robin can touch on.

Phobias/Insecurities

Pyrophobia: Because of the traumatizing car accident he went through a child, Erick has a slight but still very noticeable fear of fire. What is more, the scar he attained as a result of it is very sensitive to heat, and that could regularly lead to excruciating pain for him if and whenever he’s near any source of fire. The deep fear of fire has also caused him to show various signs of PTSD, but he does learn and try to get over the phobia as time goes on for him.

Chronic Depression: Brought about after losing his mother, as well as the mistreatment he endured from his schoolmates bullying against him because of his unusual looks and the occasional freak accident with his powers.  As standard procedure with the illness, Erick is prone to frequent bouts of sadness and anger, coupled with instances of low self-worth.

Hero Complex: Another more or less of an “illness” stemming from losing his mother, as well as his late father’s background and being part of an actual superhero team. Due to this, Erick almost always has to feel like he needs to protect and save everyone he can from danger, and place their desires before his own especially. He seems to think that this nothing more than acts of bravery, but many of his friends believe it is actually an obsession to prove himself worthy than anything else.

Portal Motion Sickness: More of an unfortunate quirk than a debilitating insecurity or phobia, Erick just cannot seem to stand traveling by portals like he can by either plane or any other means of transportation. Truly, he gets sicker than a dog whenever he journeys through Raven’s shadowy vortexes.

Likes: Asian Cuisine, exploring the “off-beaten path,” adventure-RPGs, drawing, learning about the “outside” world, duels/sparring, iced tea.
Dislikes: Robin’s morals, hidden secrets, finding Silkie in his underwear, fire, those who turn to an easy solution for anything rather than challenge themselves.

Character Background

Part I: Blue Dawn

The first and only child of a twentysomething human woman named Celeste Rovias, and an Auranian alien warrior named Azure the Blaze; Erick’s birth was one full of complications, as unbridled power he’d been blessed with was already spinning out of control. His father knew of the risks that’d come with the birth of his son, though, and consequently performed a sealing technique known to his race as the “Aeon Seal” in effort to impede his child’s powers, thereby sacrificing his own physical form. From that fateful night onward, Celeste took it upon herself to raise her and Azure’s infant son the best she could with the help of her own father, William.

Life for the little family could not have been any more normal, Erick grew up happy and healthy, and his mother being in the process of getting her life together and gaining independence. But tragedy would befall them after Celeste gone to pick Erick up from her best friend following a late-night shift at work: the two of them became the victims of a horrifying car crash many believed was the fault of a drunk driver, even though the severity of the situation told otherwise.

Erick was lucky to have survived—albeit very shaken up and badly injured—and had been taken to a hospital in Gotham City, New York. However, things were much different for his mother, as she died from her wounds in route to the very hospital her son was recuperating in. When Erick heard of what had happened to his mother, who was practically his entire world, he fell apart.

The young boy would go to spend the remainder of his early years, and the start of his teens, under the care of his loving grandfather in Minaville Province months after his recovery. But while most of his time there was peaceful, he felt very much like an outsider, especially when he would receive funny looks and the occasional backbiting from some of the sleepy town’s residents. As soon as his powers started awakening, he would get caught up in numerous freak accidents over and over again.

William tried his very best to raise him right and keep him out of trouble, of course, staving off the boy’s loneliness and providing him a method of self-defense by teaching him some formalized kendo—a Japanese martial art William himself been trained in while living in Asia as a younger man.

Part II: Dog Days

By the time he reached the age of fourteen, Erick’s life took a turn when he got himself in the middle of a climactic between Jump City’s local heroes, the Teen Titans, and their archenemy, Slade on the Silvergate Bridge while returning home after doing an errand for his grandfather. Desperately wanting to help, he summoned his power and aided the teenaged heroes in their battle against the villain, but afterwards, Erick made a run for it toward home in fear of being persecuted… Little did he know, however, his actions had piqued Slade’s and the Titans’ individual interests for him.

After hiding at home for a week or so, Erick made his way back out into the public, bumping into a strange but pretty young woman by the name of Kori Anders, who stood quite literally on his doorstep. Pressured by his grandfather to show her around town, he did so out of reluctance, and struck up a friendship with Kori. From that day onwards, the teenager never felt any happier… That is, Slade had decided to make his move.

Employed by a mysterious entity known only as “Shroud,” Slade attempted to provoke the blue-haired teen into joining him by capturing Kori and using her as a bargaining tool, even revealing her to actually be Starfire in disguise and threatening to kill her if the boy didn’t comply. Unfortunately for the villain, Erick didn’t feel like he’d had much to lose and attacked him in a blind fury, saving Starfire from him.

Part III: The Longest Night

Two days later following that incident, Titans tower would be attacked by unknown assalants while Starfire was back at the Rovias home; revocering from the previous battle. Her com went off and Robin's screams being the last thing that would echo, she looked at the young kid despite how inexperienced he was, she needed help...his Grandpa Will couldn't have agreed more.

William told Erick the recent crimes in the news, and the affair involving Starfire, were possible signs that something big was coming. The older man would go on to explain that Azure his father had left important instructions detailing that should anything happen to him, William would prepare his child for impending danger. This danger was "Shroud the Dusk": a powerful enemy that held a grudge against Azure for standing against him. The vicious Shadonian creature would vow to hunt down Azure for his actions, including hunting down all blood related to him.

But there was one other instruction Azure left: craft a weapon using his remains, primarily his heart. That weapon, an old sword that he himself picked out of William’s collection, would become the only blade powerful enough to balance his wild energies. The young boy was both angry and scared but also wanted to know the truth of what he was...as promise for it, he agreed to help Starfire uncover the mystery.

Erick eventually assisted Starfire in finding her missing teammates, who’d mysteriously vanished from Titans Tower. One by one, the Titans were found; however, Beast Boy, Cyborg, and Raven were all infected with Shroud’s virus. This unfortunate scenario left Erick, Starfire and Robin to fight their comrades and although it wasn’t an easy task; the half-alien saved his three friends, also learning the virus could infect inanimate objects as well as both living and dead organisms.

Towards the end of the seemingly long night, Shroud decided to a make personal appearance and ambush the exhausted teen superheroes with the intent on destroying them—and the son of his enemy—while betraying Slade all at once. However, as if it were a sign of divine intervention, the sun rose and its light scorched the demonic alien, forcing him to flee the battle for the time being.

In the aftermath, Jump City was saved, but the Titans were left to tend to their wounds and contemplate to what to do next. Erick, meanwhile, knew that his father’s enemy was still out there and, rather than go at it alone; he decided to forge an alliance with the teen heroes and stomp out Shroud the next time he would appear.

Teen Titans Information
Affiliations: Teen Titans || Shadow Guard of Avalon (future)
Team Position: close-combatant || amateur exorcist/occult expert || self-appointed “jackass-of-all-trades” || “resident blue knight” (by Cyborg)
Alignment: Chaotic Good/True Neutral – Even though he was raised to understand the difference between right and wrong, Erick feels that the law isn’t always just and wants to take it into his own hands. Still, in an obvious contrast to his alignments, he’s opposed to actually killing villains.

Powers
In the beginning of the second season, Erick’s alien powers are nearly available to him, but he was unable to control them or tap into his abilities without consequence.

He loses the majority of his abilities after the Aeon Seal ends and his Alien form awakens. In reality, the powers he had had once belonged to Shroud, and his true power hadn’t fully awakened until that moment.

His time within the Shadow Guard would allow him to regain some of his powers but would be stronger as a result.

The known powers he has include:

Auranian Eye: A uniquely ocular variation of infrared light, which allows Erick to see the condition of other beings in the form of “auras,” especially those who are afflicted by darkness, Shadonian Infection or spiritual corruption. Activates subconsciously, usually in places where there’s a lack of light.

Auranian Energy Blasts: Erick is able to channel his own lifeforce and launch portions of it as projectiles strong enough to wound or incapacitate any enemy.

Aura Halo: A simple energy-shield Erick emits subconsciously in battle, capable of reducing the effects of damage dealt by physical, magic and other forces. It cancels out after too much damage is afflicted. Recharges after a brief period.

Healing Aura: By channeling his alien energies, Erick is able to accelerate his own or even another’s regenerative cells within the body and heal wounds. Of course, a drawback to this is the ability leaves him unprotected against his enemies while using it.

Time Dilation Field: A relatively minor skill, which allows Erick to subconsciously project an invisible field of energy and slow down time around him. This is mostly meant to confuse and distort his enemy’s perception of his movements, creating an illusion that he’s moving at high speed when he’s actually moving very slowly.

Other Powers: Light and Dark elemental manipulation

Abilities

Proficiency in Swordsmanship: Having been trained exclusively by his grandfather, William Rovias, and later Viviane “Nimue” Celestine, lady knight of the isle of Avalon; Erick knows more than enough about the way of the sword. He also mixes up the techniques he’s learned from both of his teachers [formalized Japanese kendo and European sword-fighting respectively] when in battle to find his own fighting style.

Capabilities in close combat / Guerilla Tactics

Enhanced Agility: Even without his Aura Halo, Erick is capable of being quicker on his feet and dodging attacks because of his alien birthright. While not on par with Robin or any speedster, he can still keep up in a melee fight or large battle.

Basic Light and Dark Magic Training: After losing old powers, Erick had to start over from scratch. With his true power awakened, he learned how to tap into both forces of Light and Darkness from his alien heritage and, as ironic twist, forces similar to Mana—Avalon’s neutral magic energy. To regain his previous abilities, he was instructed by the Shadow Guards own teachers to harness his own energies and use spell casting as a base to draw up that power.

Infusion Transformation:

A unique spell ability exclusive to the Shadow Fae, an elusive race of dark elves in Avalon. The skill itself is used to empower their warriors with the caster’s powers; however, the results vary on the individual. In Erick’s case, it empowers his allies with Auranian energy, with the similar rules of the original. Furthermore, its effects are only temporary and when it ends, the person returns to normal with their abilities intact. But at the same time, its potency is greater with Shadow Magic and there are two resulting forms, which are:

• Light Form: The most common result with Infusion, and the warrior changes into an “evolved” variation of his or herself. It lasts for a good while; side effects after it ends varies, but nothing dangerous.

• Dark Form: A rare but feral transformation that only occurs for certain people; whether by powers, abilities or even disposition the cause of this form is unknown. The power of this form is borderline demonic, and the duration for this form is unpredictable; it could last an hour, minutes, even seconds.

Auranian Transformation:

Erick’s true power unleashed, giving him the ability to shapeshift his arms into weaponry, flight and enhanced dexterity. Though his defense in turn sacrificed, and he has to be quick to avoid danger to the best of his ability. It only lasts for a short time, once it runs out his powers shut down for a time; leaving him vulnerable. But if canceled out early, he can avoid the “cool down” period with only fatigue and slowed energy regeneration.

Weaponry/Equipment

• Aura Sword: An ancient Durandal-like sword infused with Azure’s heart, this is Erick’s first and last line of defense throughout his career early on. Capable of inflicting damage without killing, the blade can pierce low level shields, but not metal or rock. Its antique design and time taken condition limits how powerful an Auranian forged weapon could be, however.

It’s the source of the Aeon Seal, which acts as a limiter on Erick’s powers if he happens to abuse them, or if he’s in a berserker state. This seal impedes him until he regains his senses.  [obtained during the first half of the second season, breaks at the start of season 4]

• Phantom Sword: His second weapon he’d obtained during his time on Avalon, a longsword made from mythril silver and a mysterious Avalonian ore known as Phantom Stone. It seems to suppress his light-elemental based skills, permitting him to feel comfortable wielding his darkness-elemental attacks. But while it does give a better chance at piercing and stabbing because of the effects of its Phantom Stone composites, it isn’t entirely effective against demons or dark elemental enemies as an overall weapon.

Additionally, Erick loses his ability to take on his alien form because of the light-element suppression, leaving the young man no choice to use it a backup weapon when needed. [obtained in season 5]

• Azure Phoenix: The Aura Sword, newly forged using the remains of sword combined with mythril silver and Phantom Stone ore. Azure’s Auranian Heart now acts as its “battery,” empowering the sword to control aura energy for extended periods. Much like its previous incarnation, it gives Erick the ability to perform nonlethal strikes, bypass weak barriers and dispel basic shields. The blade is an alien-magic weapon, the first of its kind. [obtained in season 6]

Carbontanium Vest: A porotype combat vest developed by Silas Stone of S.T.A.R Labs, and while inferior to Robin’s cape, it offers more than enough protection from bullets and other weapons. Previously presented to the Teen Titans as an upgrade to their standard battle equipment, it was passed over by Robin upon Erick return. Cyborg gave the vest to the knight as an upgrade from his old leather vest and since then, Erick has worn it on countless missions.

Weaknesses

None of his weapons or offensive alien powers allow him to take lives, but Erick can inflict immense pain that can be maddening for his opponents. Dark beings, such as demons, can suffer lethal levels of damage; even Raven can be killed or injured by accident.

Regardless of how powerful he is because of his extra-terrestrial lineage, Erick is still very much a human in every sense, meaning he’s susceptible to typical mortal harms such as internal bleeding and severe injury. Extensive use of his alien powers—especially his alien transformation—can also drain him, both physically and mentally.

His dilated time field can trigger delayed and misplaced actions, making verbal communication useless. The same could said about Erick’s Aura sense, as his sight is literally inferred; this leaves him unable to tell the difference between two or more people.

His personal and moral stances often clash, sometimes leading him to believe certain actions are more justified (such as destroying a weapon over taking it as evidence) than others. This puts him in awkward situations more often than naught.

Not really considered a true weakness, but if a Tamaranean healing root called “Lok’tai” is ingested, it results in one unexpected side effect. His powers will become unpredictable and activate at random times, making him both a dangerous liability as well as a formidable wildcard.

Trivia
*Erick’s inspirations come from a majority of videogame characters such as Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Dante of Devil May Cry, Cecil Harvey of Final Fantasy 4, Alucard Fahrenheit Tepes of Castlevania, Raiden of Metal Gear Solid.
*He’s a big fan of classic heavy metal, 80’s rock, even early 90’s and 2000’s new metal and rock.
*Whereas Robin uses training to blow off steam, Erick returns to his hometown for personal time. As he was raised in the countryside, he’s most comfortable there.
*He holds deep resentment towards Gotham City, because it’s where the car accident that took his mother’s life occurred. Batman never showed up, nor knew of the accident, until it was too late and since that time, going to or mentioning the city is like salt on the wound for him.
*With complicated cases, Erick does go back to crime scenes and relooks at evidence on his own. He likes to look at things with a fresh pair of eyes and approach everything at a different angle.

Nice OC.

In fact, the name Aura Blaze sounds like it would be a good video game.

Thanks

I originally created him around the idea of a video game character in Teen Titans at first then evolved from there.
