Nicely done, these things are tough to get. Reversing rings certainly help though

Lol where did you get yours? I want to buy one just so my macros come out nicer until I can afford an actual lens lol.

You do uber awesomely well at snowflakes I envy your ability at capturing them.

I found one on ebay for under $5 for my Nikon. It's coming from China so it's not here yet, though.

Haha, I actually got mine from a family friend (he had a bunch of photography gear, and gave me the ring when he found out I was into macro). I would simply go to ebay and puck up a cheap one there, I haven't been able to find any in camera stores (at least where I live).

I sold my macro lens in anticipation of buying another. -_-

The new purchase is on hold until I can evaluate a Canon 5D & lens
combo at the end of the month. Should the confluence of snow,
camera, lens come together--it's on like a pot of neckbones.

holy crap, how did you manage such a good capture?? I haven't tried taking shots of snowflakes (no macro lens yet), but it seems like it would be extremely difficult. This is just stunning!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aziot In reply to PoetLaurie [2009-12-28 19:24:17 +0000 UTC]

It is really difficult... lol I thought some of the shots I took were focused well, then I got them onto my computer...and nope, big fail. I ended up with very few focused shots. But still enjoy them (will post them maybe in a few days).

For this I just used the reverse lens technique with my standard kit lens 18-55mm. It is probably a lot easier with an adapter, and I bet things would be way more focused if I had one, but for now I deal with just holding the lens in front of the camera lol. You should try capturing snowflakes sometime! it's really fun, and its amazing seeing all of the shapes through the lens. I wonder if a magnifying glass would work.

Hey: good shot, did someone get a macro lens for Christmas. You stated in comments that it is hard to take shots of snowflakes, exactly! You need good eyes, sturdy Tripod and a remote shutter release. Also make sure your dioptric knob is focused properly. Post more beautiful macros on your photo-stream soon ?

Aziot In reply to Vonburgherstein [2009-12-28 19:21:03 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for all of the tips. And nope this is just reverse lens. I would love a macro lens though lol. I will post some more macros in a few days. I'm currently visiting my father and am on his laptop, can't really upload photos to it (I brought some macro shots with me too).

And I think shots like this would be a lot easier with at least a reverse lens adapter...I have to hold the lens up to my camera now. So I don't know if a tripod would help. maybe it would, but I was also almost on the ground... lol. I will try it though and definitely will use one when I get an adapter or an actual macro lens

Oh well, some day you will have a macro. Then the fun will really start. I love macro, however it can take alot of preparation for that perfect focus.

Remember back in the olden time days? When you used that other camera? Maybe your moms? How things have changed huh?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aziot In reply to Devoral [2010-02-09 17:50:54 +0000 UTC]

Things have really changed because of being able to use a different camera I think SLR's are good for art, but I still like compact ones at times and for family events. Using my SLR is difficult at times just to take random family get together shots.

How are you doing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Devoral In reply to Aziot [2010-02-09 18:02:34 +0000 UTC]

Yea and those compacts are making pretty good shots nowadays.
